View Full Version : Nexus 7 profile

I have a Nexus 7 1st Generation and it defaults to the Microsoft X-box profile. It plays back most mp3 just fine (from a NAS device), but for some mp3 files it can't play back. It says media player unable to play the media. Now if I copy that MP3 to the machine running Mezzmo, then I can play back the mp3 on the Nexus just fine. Not sure why it can play some mp3 from the NAS but not others.

Also for mkv files on the NAS, it plays the video back just fine, but there is no audio. I haven't yet tried copying the mkv file to the machine running Mezzmo.

Any ideas? I can provide log files if you like. Is there a more appropriate profile for the Nexus 7 I should use?

Thanks.

I'd suggest you install Mezzmo Android app + MX Player app onto your Nexus 7. Get them both from Google Play. This will allow you to browse your Mezzmo server, see all the metadata associated with your files and then play all your files. Mezzmo Android will play your music and display your photos. For videos, choose MX player when playing a video from Mezzmo Android. On the Media Devices dialog in Mezzmo, make sure the device profile for your Nexus 7 is set to 'Conceiva Mezzmo (Android)' for the best user experience.

Thanks, Paul. I tried Mezzmo for Android and the same problem exists. For certain MP3 files I have, it won't play back from the NAS, but there are many that play back just fine. I also have Skifta installed on the Nexus and the same problem exists with it. I'm not so sure what is different about these MP3 files. If I copy them to my PC running Mezzmo and add that folder, they play back fine.

I'm going to try copying the MP3 files to the Nexus directly and see if they actually play. Perhaps it's a problem with the playback on the Nexus itself.

Understand. If they play OK, then in Mezzmo, right-click on the MP3 that does not play and click 'Get FFmpeg Information'. Post that information here or email it to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll understand better why it is not playing.

Well, I got this to work. I change the Mezzmo service to log on using my account, instead of a Local System account. But it's odd that the Local System account would play some mp3 from the NAS and not others. Odd :)

Glad you worked it out :)
