I've upgraded to v4 and just assumed it would have better photo tag support given its been requested in a few threads over the years and seems to be an obvious omission for photo support. However have I missed something or is there no change in v4? I have a huge number of photos and scans of old photos and the tags are essential to categorise them and every one has one or more tags.

If there isn't support for tags for photos then although Mezzmo is great for other media and has great support, I've got not choice but to start checking out media server software again. :(

So I just hope I've missed something!

Mezzmo v4.x now reads EXIF, ITPC and XMP tags from photos. These tags are listed in the Properties dialog - either in dedicated fields or collected under the Description field. You can create smart playlists or active playlists (with smart filters) to find create playlist of the files you are interested in.

After your upgrade, did you run Maintain Library with "Update all attributes" radio button turned on? This tells Mezzmo to re-analyse your collection photos on your Mezzmo library and collect the metadata from within them. Note: It will overwrite your existing metadata.

If that still does not work, then please email us a few sample photos to support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll try them here to determine the problem.

Thanks Paul.

I've now got the structure I require for my photos (subject to one issue below). The original problem was I didn't spot the right meta data fields for photos in combination which not getting Photoshop Organiser to persist some recent tag changes to the photos. I appreciate the challenge of all the different meta data for different media types but some clarification in the help, or filtered drops downs may be useful.

However I still have one issue which is the artwork for playlists in the hierarchy. These were automatically (I must have checked the update artwork option) and in some cases are photos from the list, but in most cases appear to be random photos from other lists, with some used for many playlists.

How are these artwork images determined for photos, as right now I'll need to remove or edit most of them manually? For reference I am using v4.0.6 and the default folder meta data retrieval dialog settings.

For folders and playlists, Mezzmo automatically assigns artwork based on the contents of the folder or playlist - if you have not already manually assigned artwork to the folder or playlist. You can turn this feature off using the "Create artwork based on contents of folder/playlist" checkbox in the Metadata Retrieval Settings dialog. Go to the Options dialog (Retrieving Metadata page) to access this dialog.

To manually assign your own folder / playlist artwork, right-click on the folder or playlist and click Properties to access the Folder / Playlist Properties dialog.

Thanks but the question is why using the ""Create artwork based on contents of folder/playlist" option is applying a picture that is not in any sub folder or playlist of that folder?

They seem to be mixed up with no obvious pattern - is this a known issue?

We have not seen this, so we'd like to see a set of logs from you when the problem occurs. Turn on logging in Mezzmo (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. Exit the Mezzmo Windows app and start it again. Now reproduce the problem where Mezzmo assigns the wrong artwork to a folder. Once reproduced, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com. If you cannot reproduce the problem, then take a few screenshots of Mezzmo showing the problem and email them to us.
