Playlist Sharing Permissions Issue

Hi All,

Has anyone else been trying to setup a single playlist with Playlist Sharing Permissions so that only a single device (IP Address) can access it?

I have created a new playlist as per this screenshot. And as you can see there are no files within. The only way I have worked out how to add these files, is to add this folder to the Library, BUT as soon as I do that, all these items are ALSO added to my other playlists ie. recently added, last 20 played etc.

I thought if I set up the permissions on the Adult playlist that it would stop the files from being visible elsewhere, but because I have imported the folder, they disperse to the Recently added etc.

How have other people been able to view and limit who can play a select playlist??

Is all of the content you want to limit in the same folder ? If so, set the sharing permissions on the folder playlist and see if that works. It has for me.

hi, yeah I have a single folder on my PC which I want to limit.

I have just added this single folder to my library, and used the sharing permissions to allow only one device access. And so after maintaining my library I check my other smart playlists (recently added) for example, and all the files appear in this playlist, which is not what I am after. So what I would have to do, is go through every playlist and remove this folders contents from appearing. I dont think that would be the best way to do it, as every new playlist created I would have to ensure that I am not including this particular folders contents.

The problem with restricting the folder using device IP address is that the folder will be successfully restricted from being listed on the device, but the files within that folder have been added into your Mezzmo library and will also appear under other playlists (Recently Added, etc.). So you really need to restrict the files from the device. This is where parental control using content ratings is much more useful:


When your files have been added into Mezzmo or when you maintain them, they should have been assigned a content rating (i.e. MPAA rating for US-based users). Mezzmo collects this for movies and TV shows from online metadata web sites. If your files don't have an appropriate content rating, then you can assign one easily. Right-click on the file in Mezzmo and click Properties. On the Properties dialog, click the small Browse icon on the right of the Content rating edit box and choose the appropriate rating, If you have many files to do, then select a bunch of them (using SHIFT key or CTRL key or rubber-banding) and right-click on one of the selected files and click Properties. Set the Content rating and click OK. This will assign the content rating to all of the selected files.
Once you have the content rating for your files set, then you can tell Mezzmo what devices should list files with certain content ratings. Go to the Media Devices dialog, and edit your device. On the Device Settings dialog, go to the Content Rating tab and you can set the content rating that you don't want listed or streamed to your device. You can also set the times of day when the restriction applies - e.g. between 6AM to 9PM when your children use your devices. This lets you browse and stream all your files unrestricted in the other times.
You can also stop a folder or playlist being listed by setting the content rating for the folder or playlist. Right-click on the folder or playlist and click Properties. On the Properties dialog, set the content rating.

Hi Paul,

i have just got one single file successfully blocked as per your above instructions, but now I want to apply the content rating manually to my other files, so I am selecting them all [ctrl+A], then right clicking, but as per my screen shot the propertied box is not available if I select them all. I just right click in mezzmo and it should be accessible shouldnt it? There are hundreds of files, some reside within sub folders, this doesnt matter does it? It would take hours to open each folder and change content rating one by one.

The reason Properties menu item is disabled is that you you have files and folders selected. You need to have just files selected.

Looking at your files, Mezzmo should have found online metadata for most/all of these movies and assigned the corresponding content rating (G, PG-13, R, etc.) to them when you added the files into Mezzmo or when you maintain your Mezzmo library.
