Hi

In me micro server I have RAID 5 which is where I keep all the media files but I also have a 2tb drive on its own which isn't the fastest drive in the world.
I currently have the Pre Transcoded files in a folder on the 2tb drive should these be on the faster RAIDED drive?

Thanks

Akimba

It shouldn't make a bit of difference since even the biggest raw, Blu-Ray rip maxes out at 45Mbps and even a single 5 year old HDD should be capable of 10x that output (MB/sec). In fact, from a data integrity point of view, it is better to have constantly changing data like that on a standalone scratch disk. I keep my actual files on a FlexRAID array, but use a 1TB WD Green as my scratch disk for transcoded files and other Mezzmo temp duty.
