View Full Version : Aspect ratio problem

Hello,

I have installed the Trial Version of Mezzmo since a view days.
The program is exact what I was looking for, but I have one problem.

When I stream e.g. a divX movie in 21:10 format it appears in 16:9 on my Sony Bravia TV. As a result the picture is stretched (e.g. a sun appears oval and not as a circle).

On my PC is aspect ratio is OK.

What can I do to solve the problem?

Mark

Hello Mark,

Can you please post FFmpeg information (in Mezzmo right-click on the file and use the "Get FFmpeg Information" command) about that file and I'll try to simulate it here as well. I've seen the Bravia do weird things for "non-standard" dimensionsed files, so in that case we could force it to re-transcode the file into something the TV can display properly.

Hi Mark,

Can you please send a message to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and I'll send you an updated device profile for the Bravia to try.

Hi,

thank you for the profile. I tested it, but the result is the same.
The picture is still streched.

Any idea?

Hi Mark,

Please send new logs to support, as I need to see whether the new profile is applying new settings. Also, one thing I may have forgotten to mention is that you'd need to clear your transcoding files (using the Transcoding Settings dialog for example), so that they're re-transcoded.

Hi Dennis,

should I send you the FFmpeg information or any other logs?

Hi Dennis,

I just deleted the temporary transcoded files and the aspect ratio is OK now, but I have to change the TV Setting from "wide" to "zoom" (this did not work before).

So it is not perfect (because normally the aspect ratio should be ok in "wide" mode), but it is working now.

Thanks

Hi Mark,

Is that with the updated device profile or with officially released 2.1.11?

Hi Dennis,

I just updated the device Profile.

Hi Mark,

Did you update Mezzmo to 2.1.11 as well or not yet? If you haven't yet, then I would suggest making a backup of the device profile before the update (they'll be put in a backup folder during installation in any case though), then update Mezzmo and see if it still works (on previously untranscoded files). If it doesn't, please replace the device profile again and see if that helps. Since the changes were not tested thoroughly before update, they weren't part of 2.1.11, but I'll make them part of the next update then, if everything works.

Hi Dennis,

I installed the new Version, but the aspect ratio was still not OK. With the profile you sent me the aspect ratio is ok, when I change the TV setting from "wide" (normal 16:9 setting) to "zoom".

Thanks

Hi Mark,

Yes, that's expected - as I mentioned above, the update you were using didn't make it into 2.1.11, but will be there for the next minor update. Do you still have the device profile I sent?

Mawie

Hi Dennis,

yes I still have the profile. And it still works.

Hello Conceiva Staff,

I have installed the Trial Version of Mezzmo 2.1.11.0 yesterday; fantastic and plays my MKV files

I am streaming the data by wireless - 10 metres TV to modem and 10 metres computer to modem

My laptop is an ACER 5740G with Intel I-5 processor 430M 2.26 Ghz (looks like 2 cores for laptop)
-- 1GB ATI mobility radeon HD 5650 graphics card up to 2746 MB Hyper Memory
-- 4 GB memory
-- Windows 7

When I stream mkv movie it appears in 16:9 on my Pansonic P50V20A TV (should be 21:10 format).
-- The picture is stretched upwards - the same problem as Mawie on 10-04-2010 07:54 PM #1 for this thread.
-- I have deleted the temporary transcoded files and increased the maximum folder size to 50GB
-- maximum transcoders set to 2

I still have a problem where the mkv movie is still 16:9

my videos are stuttering
When I play the 25 GB Avatar mkv movie, this video is stuttering when I stream them to my TV
-- video bitrate is set to low (less quality, faster transcoding and delivery)
-- movie still stutters

I would very much appreciate your help

Regards
John

Hello John,

Please send a message to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and we'll send you an updated device profile for your Viera to try and fix the aspect ratio. We'll look at the stuttering issue as well - can you please turn on logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) then delete transcoded files and try to play Avatar again. Once it stutters please stop the server and send the logs to the e-mail above as well.

Is your wireless connect A/B/G or N? If it's N, I'd recommend not to change the network/bitrate settings at first, as reducing the bitrate may actually increase transcoding time (if quality is kept the same).

Dear Mezzmo Team,

as I have been using Your trial software for some days, I would like to specify a problem I am facing. Movies I watch are being displayed with wrong aspect ratio. Everything shows up in 16:9, even when originally they had a different aspect ratio.

One example:

ffmpeg version N-36036-ga40f43d, Copyright (c) 2000-2011 the FFmpeg developers
built on Dec 22 2011 13:44:49 with gcc 4.6.2

libavutil 51. 32. 0 / 51. 32. 0

libavformat 53. 27. 0 / 53. 27. 0
libavdevice 53. 4. 0 / 53. 4. 0
libavfilter 2. 53. 0 / 2. 53. 0
libswscale 2. 1. 0 / 2. 1. 0
Input #0, avi, from 'I:\Filme\00 SciFi\sunshine_xvid.avi':

I would appreciate Your support in this issue.

If you are using the "Panasonic BDP" device profile, then such files would be transcoded to MPEG2 and they may lose the aspect ratio. Can you please try the "Sony Bravia KDL" device profile as a test and see if that produces a file with proper aspect ratio?

Pasanonic
01-27-2012, 03:54 AM
Hi, Dennis,
as far as I know the "Panasonic BD 85" only produces MPEG2 files via DLNA. The "Sony Bravia KDL" device profile produces different mistakes regarding the aspect ratio, e.g. some movies are shown in 4:3 instead of Cinemascope while other Cinemascope movies are shown in 16:9. I am really interested in purchasing your fascinating software and would be very glad if you could help me handling this problem.

Paul

Ok, if the Sony's profile doesn't work properly, then we may need to add another section to the device profile to force a certain aspect ratio. Can you please open a support ticket and I'll send you a device profile to try?
