System Re-Build ... Need Mezzmo Strategy

Hello Conceiva,

I am a long time Mezzmo user and it works well for me under Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I will be re-building my computer with new components in the next week and I need a strategy and procedures for backing up and transferring my large Mezzmo library to my new Windows 8.1 system.

What do I need to do?

please see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/6028-Tutorial-How-to-backup-your-Mezzmo-database-files for information about backing up your Mezzmo database. If your files remain at the same paths on your new computer then you will just need to install Mezzmo on the new computer and restore the database and you should be up and running as before. If the paths to the files change on the new computer see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/6219-Tutorial-How-to-update-your-Mezzmo-library-when-you-move-your-media-files

If you have pre-transcoded files for your devices and want to keep the transcoded files then you will also need to backup your Transcoding folder, see 'Transcoding Settings' in Mezzmo for it's location.

My current Mezzmo library is on a 2TB HDD. I plan to replace this drive with a 3TB HDD. Should I just copy my Mezzmo media files, music, video, pictures etc., over to the new 3TB HDD using the Windows Copy commands and then after I have installed Mezzmo on to my operating system drive, Windows 8.1, then go into Mezzmo and point the Mezzmo database to the new 3TB HDD?

As long as the drive letter designation and folder path are the same for the media files on the new drive then restoring the Database from the backup will work just fine.

I would just stick the 2TB drive and the 3TB drive in the same PC (at least temporarily) and then just copy/paste everything over exactly as they sit.

Just to confirm: smitbret is right. If your folder and file paths are exactly the same, then backing up your Mezzmo database from your old system and then restoring it your new system will work.

If your paths to your media files have changed, then you can use the "Change Paths" tool on the Maintain Library dialog (Tools tab). This will let you change the paths of media files that are stored in your Mezzmo database to the new location. Click the Help button on the dialog for more help.

Alternatively, you could start with an empty Mezzmo library and add your files into Mezzmo to ensure everything is OK.

Yes, Mezzmo works great on Windows 8.1 :)
