Hey Paul and gang

I was just curious if it would be possible to add a feature to update episode metadata automatically instead of individually. For example, at the moment I would need to update each individual episode in order to get it's info, however instead of this it would be good to be able to just choose the correct season and a scan would then add meta for every episode/season in that folder so I would only be choosing the correct show. There is a program that done this called Thumbgen, but because this is upnp the meta would not work for Mezzmo. Anyway, just a thought. :)

Cheers

Understand, Hashy. If you name your file names correctly, then Mezzmo will automatically find the episode information for you when you add your files into Mezzmo or maintain your files.

Mezzmo current supports these file naming styles:

C:\folder\Movie Title.avi
C:\folder\Movie Title YYYY.avi
C:\folder\Movie Title (YYYY).avi
C:\folder\Title s01e01 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title 1x01 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title Season 1\Title 1x01 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title Season 1 Episode 1 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title\Season 1\01 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title\Season 1\s01e01 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title\Season 1\1x01 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title\Season 1\Title s01e01 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title\Season 1\Title 1x01 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title\Season 1\Episode 1 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title\Season 1\Season 1 Episode 1 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title Season 1\01 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title Season 1\s01e01 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title Season 1\1x01 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title Season 1\Title s01e01 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title Season 1\Title 1x01 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title Season 1\Episode 1 Subtitle.avi
C:\folder\Title Season 1\Season 1 Episode 1 Subtitle.avi

If Mezzmo is not automatically picking up the metadata for your video files, then post the full file path for the video files and we'll look into what's going wrong.

Hey thanks Paul.

I think it might be on my end as I don't usually use metadata, but since I just changed from the WDTV Live Hub to XBMC I thought I would give it a go. Could you possibly point me to what settings I should be using on maintenance in order for Mezzmo to auto get all meta for my files? I think this is where I am getting confused.

Cheers in advance. :)

Understand. As a start, right-click on a folder or playlist in the tree in Mezzmo and click 'Maintain Playlist'. On the Maintain Playlist dialog, select the "Update media properties", "Update subtitles" and "Update artwork" checkboxes. Also, select the "Update all attributes" radio button. Next, click the "Metadata Retrieval Settings" button to display the Metadata Retrieval Settings dialog. On the Metadata Retrieval Settings dialog, click the "Default Settings" button for each tab (Video, Music, etc.) and click OK. Now click "Maintain Now" to start maintenance. After maintenance has completed and all system tasks have completed, then Mezzmo has finished getting metadata and artwork for your files in this playlist. If that works fine, then you can do the same for other playlists/folders or maintain your whole Mezzmo library using the Tools -> Maintain Library menu item.

Just to throw my 2 cents in here. I made the switch from WDTV Live to XBMC in the last year and had to deal with collecting metadata also.

If you had the metadata already collected as .xml files for the WDTV Live, then you should be able to set Mezzmo to read that same metadata. If you don't have it, my recommendation is to use TinyMediaManager, http://www.tinymediamanager.org/.

Run your files through this and generate applicable .nfo files, set Mezzmo to gather the metadata from .nfo files and then just click <Update Library>.

Works like a charm and if something ever happens to your Mezzmo database, the .nfo files stay put and the database will rebuild from them.

Thanks for the help guys. I done the above and I can get the meta working fine in xbmc, however the banner and other art won't show. The only art that does show is the season covers. I scanned in the meta from Tiny Media Manager which also picked up all the artwork etc, then I went to Mezzmo and scanned in with the first settings you gave me Paul but the result was as mentioned. I will try some other combinations when I get time. I am using XBMC Gotham 13.2 which is the latest so I'm not sure that this may effect the outcome. Anyway Ill keep on trying!

Edit- One last thing, the art backgrounds show fine in Mezzmo after scan, the artwork also shows fine in TMM, it seems to be the communication between Mezzmo and XBMC or possibly a setting I am missing.

Thank you both for the help. :)

LOL, I didn't even know that Mezzmo picked up the backdrop artwork until this thread.

Unfortunately, XBMC doesn't read a few things via UPnP/DLNA. Backdrop would appear to be one. It seems to support Album Art, Title, Length, Plot, Year and Genre but leaves out Director, Writer, Tagline and backdrop art.

That's right - the only way to see the backdrops that Mezzmo collects is in our Mezzmo Android app and the (soon-to-be-released) Mezzmo v4.1.

Ahh cool! Thanks for all the great help. Can't wait for the 4.1 version, if you need any testing done Paul I'm happy to give it a go as usual. 'Hint hint' :P

Update: Mezzmo v4.1.0.0 and Mezzmo Android app v1.1 have been released. You can see nice backdrops in Mezzmo (Windows) app when you double-click on a thumbnail to display the new Information view. Enjoy :)

Thanks Paul, but I think my question may have been confused. When I was talking about the backdrops, I was referring to the information being displayed to XBMC (the backdrops being sent from Mezzmo to XBMC). The backdrops were already visible on 4.0.6.0 by just scrolling the window down, but they didn't display in XBMC for the relevant series.

I should elaborate here: The metadata about the episodes and series work fine. The folders for series and episodes display fine, but the backdrops and episode screenshots don't display on XBMC. I hope that helps.

Understand, Hashy. Thanks for the clarification.
