I have a m4v file that will play on our WD TV Live if stored on a thumb drive. But if the file is moved to the Mezzmo server, the WD Live tells me it can't play that format. I looks like it will start, but then just errors out. It will play older Handbrake compiled files without issue.

Currently running the latest firmware on the WD TV Live, latest Mezzmo, and Handbrake 0.9.9.5530 - 64bit version.

All transcoding is disabled.

Logs are ready when you are.

Thank you!

We do know that recent firmware updates for WD TV Live players have caused playback problems. Reverting back to an earlier firmware version fixed the playback problems. See this post for other WD TV Live users problems that may be related to yours - http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/7429-WD-Live-HD-won-t-play-at-first. So as a first step, I would suggest rolling back to a stable firmware version and see if that fixes your problems. If still a problem, then you're welcome to email the logs to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

As Paul says, the latest WD TV Live update is problematic to say the least.

In my case I couldn't play anything from any media server or PC folder. A downgrade , which is very simple to do , solved these problems at a stroke.

The WD forum is full of users with issues with the latest release 2.02.32.

I opted for the 2.01.86 version.

The steps are very simple & as follows:-

1. Insert a blank USB Flash Drive into your PC.

2. Download wdtvlivegen3_rollback_2.01.86.zip from http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5860/session/L3RpbWUvMTQwOTg0MDcwMi9zaWQvUGJBZ1R5MW0%3D & unzip to the ROOT of the USB key.

3. Power on your WDTV Live.

4. When booting complete and at main screen, insert USB Key.

5. Choose NEW FIRMWARE - ignore that it says 4.01.86

6. Update and complete.

And then back to normal.

2.01.86 didn't fix it for me, but 1.16.13 did. Thanks for the help!

It was interesting that movies I had compiled months ago were ok, it was just the recent ones that didnt work. But the same movie on a thumb drive was ok.

I have a second WD TV Live and it too had to be rolled back with the same issues and versions above.

However, I found that I can stream from file shares on the media server without an issue and I can play the same file from a USB thumbdrive. I believe Mezzmo may be part of the problem here.

Playing a file via USB and streaming it via DLNA can give different playback results on your device. This is due to the firmware of your device having different playback codebase/engines for USB playback and for DLNA streaming/playback. We have found quite a few devices that can play a particular file via USB but cannot play the same file via DLNA streaming. If you still think Mezzmo may be at fault, we're happy to look at a set of logs when you stream the file to see if any problem arise. Email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

I'd put the problem down to the WD box as with the latest firmware the myriad of issues have been very varied with some users being able to play , say , MKVs but not MP4s while others have seen the reverse situation and in my case failure to play anything from shares or media servers (Mezzmo & Synology). Didn't bother trying from USB mind.

I am running 2.0.32 on 2 WD Live boxes and no issues playing m2ts and WMV formatted video files with Mezzmo.
