I would like clarification of the time it takes to run the "maintain library" function

The function started at 3:29pm and at 5:23pm it is still running. I have the function set to only update new files but the message says
"Getting text and metadata and artwork for videos from internet - 16,731 files remaining"

I have only 6 new files that require to be undated but it will probably go for another 2-3 hours

I have the bare minimum ticked ie "Only update new files or files with empty attributes" and am expecting this function to take 30mins at the most.

Can you share your experiences on what time the maintain library function should take?

Cheers

Kevin

Mine does the same, and uses over 1GB of data each time it runs
It seems that if any fields are blank it will retrieve the data for it (usually replacing blank with blank) so unless you have metadata for every field it can take a long time

For me, I now how it set similar to yours, but to only update artwork (media properties & subtitles unticked), with this it adds new files and populates them with metadata, but for current files it virtually ignores them, takes me about 2 mins now to run a maintain

Paul is basically right. When using "Only update new files or files with empty attributes", Mezzmo will attempt to get information for any files with blank attributes.

We may add another radio button to the Maintain Library dialog - "Only add new files" - and this will cover your needs.

If you want to put it to a vote, I second the motion for this option.

Thanks for the feedback Paul S. I will try that.

The addition of a radio button to only add new files and get the metadata for those has my support. Is that a "may" or a "will" Paul? :)

We'll discuss it more here - but I'd say it's a 'will' :).

That would be a great addition to see an option for only add new files

Not sure if this is the same for Kevin, but I have very poor BB speeds, so when we started seeing more metadata the time taken got longer and longer

I like to try doing a full retrieval of missing info about every 2 or 3 months just to fill any gaps, but daily I really only need it to add things

If you need a screen shot of the settings I have, let me know and I will add one here

I have a question about the way the library is maintained. It looks like mezzmo is creating duplicates of all artwork in either the \Artwork\Poster or the \Artwork\Backdrop folder.

Q: Would it not be better to just update the path to the original images and load those images?
Also, I notice for music albums that Mezzmo is duplicating the album art for each song. If I have an album with 20 songs I see 20 images for that album in the Artwork\Poster folder. All of my images are embedded in the files themselves. If Mezzmo created one cover image per album in this folder instead of one image per song if they are the same it would reduce the amount of space required for these files and remove a tremendous amount of unnecessary duplicates. It would take less time to cache one image per album than 20 so I imagine performance would improve as well.

On my machine these duplicate images in \Artwork\Poster and \Artwork\Backdrop take up approximately 10GB of extra space for the duplicated images. It would be nice to use that disc space for something other than copies of images that are already stored elsewhere on the disc.

Anyways, love the product and hope that these thoughts may help reduce the storage footprint for artwork and improve performance. Keep up the great work and support!

paulsalter: Thanks for another vote for "Only add new files". As mentioned, we'll discuss it more here before implementing.

devilbrand: Thanks for the suggestions. We do know that storing poster and backdrop artwork is not yet 100% optimal and we do plan to improve it in future versions.
