Hello,

I recently got a HP n54l Microserver to act as a disk + Mezzmo server.

Sadly the CPU isn't really up to the task of higher format (1080p) transcoding. As such I was wondering if adding a dedicated GPU would allow it to hand off some of the processing load in order to keep up.

If this is even possible with FFMpeg, then are there minimum requirements for the GPU to be supported?

Many Thanks,
Adurbe

Some further research seems to indicate that there is some improvement Possible by enabling handoff to the GPU in ffmpeg, especially in the decoding of the video prior to encoding into the new format

As you may be aware from your research, FFmpeg is starting to support some GPU offloading/acceleration in their decoders/encoders but the benefits do not yet seem to be well established. We have not yet tried GPU offloading with FFmpeg, so we cannot provide any guidance/knowledge on any benefits/pitfalls it may provide.
