Hello,

Are there any plans to port Mezzmo DLNA server to a Linux platform ?
I am asking about that, as

Linux is the main home server OS in my home
I am trying Mezzmo right now, and must say, that I started to like it very much
At the moment I need to run Mezzmo inside of Virtual Box, because of lack of Linux version ...

Thanks in advance for your quick answer (and positive, I hope :) )
Best Regards
Wireless

Hi Wireless,

Yes - we do have plans for a Linux version on our product roadmap. We're currently very busy working on the new features for Mezzmo v5.0, I can't give you an ETA on a Linux version as yet. Glad you like Mezzmo :).

Paul,

Many thanks for such quick (and positive in a longer term) answer.
Some first1 impressions about using Mezzmo:
1. it is the most flexible and configurable media server I have tested so far.
(compared with Twonky, Asset, Minimserver, Plex Media Server, Serviio). Very easy way of buildiing media files trees and categories displayed in a DLNA CP.
2. It transcode video and music very well, even running inside of a Virtual Box guest OS :). One of my devices is Sony PS3, which (as all we know :) ) supports very limited number of different multimedia formats, while my music is totally in FLAC. At this moment Mezzmo is the only DLNA server, which solves this problem, and I can play my music on PS3 (yes, I know, that it is not the best, audiophile DLNA player, but having it I'd like to use its features as wide as possible).
3. Also the good thing is overall performance: I have over 20 000 music files shared by DLNA to different devices and Mezzmo manages to handle them very well :)

Some problems I have found so far:
1. Still Plex Media Server gathers online metadata better, IMHO, than Mezzmo - sometimes Mezzmo, being not able to find the correct metadata, displays these ones coming from quite other movie
(for example: Beyonce - 4, part 1 and 2 are correctly recognized by Plex, and incorrectly by Mezzmo). But - fortunately -
- most of movies is displayed correctly
- there is an easy way to correct them, using this GUI app installed with Mezzmo server
Since then - workaround is relatively simple.

2. two of my devices are Linn DSes: in such case my CP are Linn Kinsky and Kazoo. In that case album artwork is not scaled (or scaled incorrectly). MinimServer and Asset do the scaling job well.
Twonky does it well to, however it fails with automatic recognition of Linn's CPs, and needs to be manually configured.

Definitely - the overall result of my testing is, up to now, very good, and after testing Mezzmo on Android, and at the end of this 15 days trial period I'll pay for a "normal" license :)

Thanks again
Wireless

I asked the same question a year or so back....hehehehe

We have been successful running Mezzmo on Linux using the recent Wine releases, see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/7926-Tutorial-Running-Mezzmo-with-Wine-on-Linux for more information.

This is similar to my current setup (VirtualBox with Windows as a guest OS). However it would be nice to have Mezzmo running as a native Linux software ... :) (although Mezzmo on VB offers quite good performance too)

Understand - a native Linux version is still in our plans.
