Hello,

i have an issue with the display of subtitles on the iomega tv link director (https://lenovo-na-en.custhelp.com/app/cust_alp/p/991,1077). The device is currently using a generic PAL profile and is connected via cable-ethernet.

When embedded in the MKV the device allows me to select subtitles and displays them fine. If supplied via an external srt (and no embedded subtitle stream) no subtitles are available for display. I have re-built the mezzmo database, but no change in behaviour.

Any idea if this can be fixed?

Thanks

Uwe

Hi Uwe,

Go to the Media Devices dialog and edit your Iomega device. On the Device Settings dialog, go to the Subtitles tab and make sure that streaming external subtitles is turned on. Next, on the Subtitles tab, check the external subtitle formats are added that your device supports. You can find more useful information about configuring subtitles for your device with Mezzmo here - http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/5977-Tutorial-Subtitling-Basics.

If you still find that your external subs are not displayed, then it could be that your Iomega device does not support displaying external subtitles via DLNA streaming.

Hi Paul,

thanks very much for the quick reply. Looks like the device does not support external subtitles. From reading the FAQ i understand Mezzmo would be able to remux an srt-type subtitle into the stream, but i am not sure how i would enable this?

I have tried to a) (in Supported Video containers) enable all video container for embedded subtitles and b) (in Supported Video containers) disable all video containers for external subtitles and c) (Supported subtitle formats) enable all embedded and disabled all external formats. All at the same time. This didnt trigger a re-mux, but not sure if it would by design. I have disabled transcoding (as not enough processing power on the mezzmo box), not sure if this is important.

Could you kindly give me a hint on how to enable remuxing of subtitles?

Thanks
Uwe

Mezzmo will re-mux your external subtitles as embedded subtitles into your transcoded video. You need to turn on streaming embedded subtitles for your device and turn off streaming external subtitles and burning subtitles for your device on the Subtitles tab on the Device Settings dialog. And, also on the Subtitles tabs, you need to make sure your supported embedded subtitle formats are listed and the supported embedded file containers (e.g. AVI, MKV, etc.) are listed. Finally, go to the Transcoding tab on the Device Settings dialog and make sure transcoding is turned on and delete all your transcoded files. Try streaming now and see how you go.

Hi Paul,

i have tried this, but now every file i tried is getting fully transcoded (and not just remuxed), despite being natively supported by the device. This doesnt work as the mezzmo server does not have enough computing power to do real time transcoding.

Is there a matching profile you can suggest that has native support to use as a baseline? The device natively supports quite a number of formats / codecs:

DivX Supports 3.11, 4.x, 5.x, 6.x — DivX Certified® to play DivX video, DivX VOD, DivX HD , DVD, MPEG-1,MPEG-2 (AVI, VOB) MPEG-4 (AVI, DivX, XviD, DivX VOD, DivX HD, XviD HD, and WMV), XviD, H.264, WMV, AVCHD, VC-1, SMPTE 421M, MP3, MP4, AC3, WAV, WMA, OGG Vorbis, AAC (non-DRM), FLAC, MKV

Is there a way to control transcoding better or to edit device profiles?

We can create a device profile for this device. To do this we'll need a set of logs from you. Turn on logging in Mezzmo (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. Now connect to Mezzmo server from your Iomega device and browse a few playlists and try to play a few files. Then stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com. In your email, include the supported video, music, image and subtitles formats for the device (...more information the better) and we'll use that information to create the device profile for you to try.
