View Full Version : Samsung UHD 55, Audio Codec TrueHD not working

Hallo,

I am very happy with Mezzmo so far. But there are two little problems I have recognized.

1) I have one BD Film (Spiderman 3) that has a TrueHD Audio track. When I am starting this film on my Samsung UHD 55 it says, that it does not know "pcm_s16be" codec. Video runs but without sound. All other films, which have DTS tracks work fine. Could there be a problem in the profile?

2) Sometimes, after 30+ min of streaming the TV starts stuttering and shows "load" after every 2 min. any idea what could cause this problem?

Thanks in advance for your support

Johannes

Hi Johannes,

Glad you like Mezzmo :). To answer your questions, please tell us the following:

The device profile assigned to your TV in the Media Devices dialog in Mezzmo.
The FFmpeg information for the video file. Right-click on the video in Mezzmo and click 'Get FFmpeg Information'.

Thanks for the information. This file should be transcoded on-the-fly to a compatible format for your TV. First thing to check is to make sure that you have transcoding turn on by going to (i) the Transcoding Settings dialog to check if transcoding is turned off, and (ii) by editing your TV in the Media Devices dialog. On the Device Settings dialog, go to the Transcoding tab to check whether transcoding is turned on for this device.

If transcoding is turned on and it is still not working, then it's best we see a set of logs. Turn on logging in Mezzmo (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. Right-click on the video in Mezzmo and click 'Properties'. On the Properties dialog, go to the Transcoding tab and delete any transcoded files listed there. Now try streaming the video to your TV. When it fails to play, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo app. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

Hi Paul,

unfortunately it's not working. Please find attached my Mezzmo log Files. Still my TV does not like "pcm_s16be" codec.

Johannes

Hi Paul,

with diagnostics on it says : Spiderman 3 (m2ts + snE1 = orig)
That leads to the message "pcm_s16be" codec not known.

Thanks for the logs. I can see you have transcoding disabled, so that explains why Mezzmo is just delivering your original files to your devices. Go to the Transcoding Settings dialog and turn on transcoding and try streaming again.

Hi Paul,
I have deleted all devices in the film's transcoding tab. Hope this is what you wanted. Is there another place for the transcoding settings?
Unfortunately streaming the film does not work with these settings.
The message under the film in Mezzmo shows "m2ts+sb1305E3 = matroska:va"
Actually the original video stream is no problem. Only the audio stream as you can see above in the screen copy.
If I stream the film through my Samsung BD player the sound works if I put Audio down sampling on.
FFmpeg should be able to this as well I think. But how to configure.

Hi Paul,

I forget to say, that the TV says it does not support this type of file.

Hi Johannes,

To turn transcoding on in Mezzmo, there's two places to look:

Go to the Transcoding Settings dialog and make sure transcoding is turned on (from your logs, you had transcoding turned off here)
Go to the Media Devices dialog and edit your device. On the Device Settings dialog, go to the Transcoding tab and make sure transcoding is turned on.

Now try streaming your file. It will be transcoded now so the audio channel inside the video file is converted from TrueHD into a compatible audio format.

Hi Paul,

I have done all your settings and it does not work. Even worth, all other BD films with DTS Audio will be transcoded into matroska container which the TV cannot work with.
The Samsung UHD works fine with m2ts and DTS audio but it does not work with m2ts and Dolby TrueHD Audio. Dolby true HD audio is not supported by the Samsung UHD TV but Dolby digital, Dolby Plus or DTS.
Why can't Mezzno/ffmpeg just keep the m2ts format and change Dolby true HD to Dolby digital and not using matroska. Then everything should work fine.

Hi Johannes,

We can tweak the device profile. Please delete any transcoded files for the video and turn logging on in Mezzmo. Restart your Mezzmo server and reproduce the playback problem with the video. When playback fails, stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com (or upload the logs to a filesharing site like Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, mega.co.nz, etc.) and email us the download link. In your email, include the FFmpeg information for the video. To get this, right-click on the video and click 'Get FFmpeg Information'.
