Hey all, so I have been using Mezzmo for a little while now with my LG TV and it works great. I recently went through and pre-transcoded all the videos for my PS3. I went to watch a movie via my PS3 last night and about 5 minutes in, it started acting like it was on fast forward and all the audio went to static. I thought it was a bad transcode so I picked another video, it did the same thing. I went through and deleted my transcoded files for the PS3 and just transcoded one of them again using mpegts (mpeg2video and ac3) I also did it another time checking the box for force full transcode of all channels (no remuxing). However, both re-transcoded videos have the same issue. Some times it happens sooner or some times later (not always the same spot in the video) but it will do it within a few minutes. This is also over a wired 1 gig connection.

Any advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Right-click one of the videos that has this problem and click 'Get FFmpeg Information'. Post that here or email it to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com. Next, right-click on the video again and click Properties. On the Properties dialog, go to the Transcoding tab and select the transcoded file listed there. Click the 'Get FFmpeg Information' button and also post that here or email it to us.

Well its happened with 100% of the videos I tried so far so lets just pick one for now.

Anything obvious as to why this isn't working?

Paul

Sorry for the delay. The problem may be the video bitrate (5Mb/sec) in the transcoded file being too high for the PS's firmware to decode and play correctly. Try lowering the video bitrate and see if that works better. To do this, go to the Media Devices dialog and edit your PS3 device. On the Device Settings dialog, go to the Performance tab and set the Video bitrate slider to half way. Save your changes and then pre-transcode a video again (I suggest you check the full transcode checkbox when pre-transcoding). Once transcoded, try playing the video now. Let us know if it is better now.

Ok, so I did what you suggested (deleted the transcoded file, change the slide to the middle, transcoded again) but it is still showing a bitrate of 5831 kb/s on the transcoded file. It seems like the slider for bitrate didn't really affect the bitrate speed when transcoding.

I got 10 minutes and 36 seconds in before it acted like it was on fast forward and all audio changed to static.

Understand. Try moving the slider to the leftmost position and pre-transcode the file again. Let us know if the video bitrate has changed now.

doublejz

Ok so I deleted all my trancoded files for the ps3, changed the slider to the far left and pre-transcoded again. It is still showing bitrate: 5831 kb/s when I look at the transcoded file.

I did trancode it for my TV again and looked and its showing bitrate: 9787 kb/s. There is no way that 5 mb/s is the lowest that Mezzmo will go is there?

Paul
02-13-2015, 09:56 AM
Try this: Edit your device and, on the Device Settings dialog, change the Connection value to 'Wireless B'. Keep the Video bitrate slider at the leftmost position. Now pre-transcode the video again and check if the video bitrate is lowered.

(Explanation: Mezzmo uses the combination of the Connection value and the Video bitrate slider position to determine the transcoded file output video bitrate. Setting the Connection to a low bandwidth setting like Wireless B should help decrease the video bitrate).

doublejz
02-14-2015, 06:18 AM
The bitrate still isn't going any lower.

791

790

789

I also found a couple articles that show the max desired bitrate for the PS3 is 15mbps.

"For maximum compatibility with the PS3, the bitrate peaks should not exceed 15 Mbps (15,000 kbit/s, although I've observed brief peaks of more than 25 Mbps that seems to not cause problems, and that the Xbox 360 handled peaks better than the PS3)"

So we may be chasing the bitrate down for nothing.

OK - we'll try it here with our PS3. Can you upload one of your videos that the problem occurs on? Upload it to a filesharing site like Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, mega.co.nz, etc. and email us the download link to support [at] conceiva [dot] com. That will let us reproduce the problem here and fix it.

These are Bluray rips so I really don't want to be uploading copyrighted movies. Let me see what movies I can find to do so.

Thanks - we reproduced your problem on our PS3. It appears the problem is the encoding of your MKV files and that PS3's firmware cannot decode and play them properly. When we fully pre-transcode one of your MKV files to another format, the video plays fine on our PS3. I have emailed you more details about this.
