View Full Version : Mezzmo Android app cannot see Mezzmo server

I've been a longtime Mezzmo Server user - running it on a Windows Home Server 2012 system with no problems.

Recently, I downloaded the Trial version of the Mezzmo Android app (US Moto X phone) and found out that it does not see my server. I even tried the app on another phone with the same result - cannot find the server.

My 2010 Sony Bravia TV has no problems seeing the server and working with the media files.

I opened the Mezzmo server application and when I open 'Media Devices', I see that my phone is not listed in there (The IP address of my phone is not even listed as 'Unknown'). Looking around the server, it says that the Firewall settings are configured correctly.

I figure something is blocking access to the Server (maybe within the DLNA sphere). I've ensured that all actions mentioned in the FAQ (same sub-net etc.) are correct.

Can anyone help please?

Try temporarily disabling the firewall and see if that helps. I suspect that it will.

Just tried this - Disabled Windows Firewall on my server. But, the server is still not seen by the Mezzmo Android app.
BTW, I tried another app (Bubble UPnP) from the store and it too cannot see the server.

Something appears to be blocking either the advertisement of the server or the connection.

It does appear to be a wireless network issue.

Check out this FAQ - http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/1183-FAQ-Cannot-see-Mezzmo-on-your-DLNA-device. It contains the typical causes of Mezzmo server not being listed on your device or app.

If still a problem, let us know and we'll help further.

@Paul: I've ensured that all relevant steps mentioned in the FAQ are correctly configured in my setup.
- Firewall configured correctly. (Also tried after disabling the firewall)
- All the correct ports are opened (as configured in the Media Server Settings dialog), TCP/2869 and UDP/1900
- Same sub-net for the phone (192.168.1.3) and server (192.168.1.10)

Anything else, I can look for? (The Media Devices does not even show my phone or phone's IP address).
Thanks.

It's best we see a set of logs so we can see what's going wrong. Turn on logging (see http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/419-FAQ-How-to-turn-on-diagnostic-logging) and restart your Mezzmo server. On your Android device, exit Mezzmo (Android) app and start it again. Go to SERVER mode in Mezzmo (Android) app and check if Mezzmo server is listed. If not, touch the Refresh icon and wait a few minutes. If Mezzmo server is still not listed, then stop your Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo (Windows) app. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

Thanks for the prompt response, Paul.
For some reason, the app is now working! I didn't really do anything different. All I did was enable logging and restart the media server. Now, the app can see the server and I can stream everything from it.

I had tried this previously a few times - restarted the media server and even rebooted the server system. It never worked then. Somehow, enabling (and then disabling) logging appears to have fixed it.

Thanks, again. (BTW, I'm running the 15-day Trial version of the app...Will most likely purchase it!)

OK - glad you are up and running now :).

Paul - Sadly, the issue is back :(
I received a Windows update and had to reboot my home server system. Subsequent to the reboot, the Mezzmo app cannot see the Mezzmo server anymore.

Shall I collect all the logs and send them to Support?

Try this: Go to the Media Server Settings dialog in Mezzmo (Windows) app and rename your Mezzmo server to another name (e.g. "My Mezzmo"). Click OK. This will force your Mezzmo server to be re-registered as a Windows service on your computer and that may help unblock it so DLNA/UPnP communication can pass though your firewall. Now on your Mezzmo (Android) app, go to the SERVER tab and refresh your server list. Hopefully you can see Mezzmo listed now. If not, then exit Mezzmo (Android) app and start it again. Try to list Mezzmo server again.

If no success, then please email us a set of logs and we'll see if we can see what's going wrong.

I know this is old news. However, I had to create a new windows profile and found my devices could no longer see anything in my Mezzmo PC library. This advice solved the problem. Thanks so very much.
