View Full Version : Upgraded to Windows 10 - other PC's cannot see Mezzmo Server

Hi All,

I have been using Mezzmo Media Server for quite a long time now with no hassle, however I recently upgraded my main desktop (which has Mezzmo installed on it) to Windows 10 Home, and my laptop to Windows 10 Home.

Before the upgrade, my laptop was able to see Mezzmo listed in the Network's section on "My Computer" screen, and let me browse the server and my folders within it. However it doesn't seem to be able to see it or connect to it anymore since the upgrade.

Mezzmo Server is running correctly, all settings are still the same and other devices are still able to connect like my iPad and Samsung TV, just none of the Windows 10 devices are able to see it anymore. I have checked all settings in network and sharing, both machines are on the same network, and have sharing / discovery turned on, file sharing turned on, and Mezzmo is correctly configured on the firewall.

Is there a random new setting in Windows 10 that I'm missing??

It sounds like your Windows 10 firewall is either blocking DLNA/UPnP communication and/or blocking Mezzmo.exe & MezzmoMediaServer.exe from accessing your home network. Try this: Go to the Media Server Settings dialog in Mezzmo and rename your Mezzmo server (e.g. "Mezzmo Win 10"). Click OK to save your name change. This forces your Mezzmo server to re-registered as a Windows service on your computer and it may clear up any blocking that may be appearing. Let us know how you go.

Hi Paul,

I changed the name as you suggested which re-registered Mezzmo as a windows service, however it still does not show on my other Windows 10 devices. All my other DLNA devices (Blu-ray system, TV and iPad) can see it fine.

All the settings on my W10 Laptop is the same as my W10 Desktop (The desktop is what has the Mezzmo Server installed on it)

Given that all devices in your home (except your Windows 10 laptop) can see Mezzmo server, then this suggests that Mezzmo server and your Windows 10 desktop are configured correctly. It appears that your Windows 10 laptop is still blocking DLNA/UPnP communication. As a test, turn off the firewall on your Windows 10 laptop and then restart your Mezzmo server on your Windows 10 desktop. Perhaps reboot your laptop as well. I guess that your laptop will now start listing Mezzmo server. If true, then you need to check the settings for your laptop's firewall. Specifically check that the 3 ports are not blocked. Let us know how you go.

Hi Paul,

I've double checked all settings and they are the same on both machines. I also added the specified ports along with the port listed in the Settings panel in Mezzmo to my Avast! Firewall. I also uninstalled Avast! and added the ports to Windows Firewall to see if it was a 3rd party app issue, but to no avail. It seems to be something with Windows 10 itself :( which is really frustrating as I use my laptop as my primary device for streaming / watching shows

Update to the above note - I seem to have fixed the issue. It does seem that within Windows 10 you need to manually open the required ports via the Windows Firewall (even if you use a 3rd party app which has a firewall). The reason it never worked the first time round because I accidently typed the mezzmo port it was running on, incorrectly into the windows firewall rules. As soon as I changed that, I hit refresh, and Mezzmo appeared!

So problem solved! :)
