What determines whether you will have playback control when streaming a ripped ISO?

Greetings,

Apparently, while testing out Mezzmo, I got lucky and selected ISOs that would allow playback control (e.g. fast forward).

However, tonight, after another rip session (I'm still trying to get my 500+ DVDs onto my NAS using a Sony VGP-XL1B robot), during which one of the auto-rips failed, I manually ripped the ISO to disk using ANYDVD.

The film was Patriot Games. The ANYDVD rip proceeded without error. I decided to play it (the ripped Patriot Games iso) via Mezzmo to my Oppo BDP-103. Upon hitting play, it went directly to the movie (no menus of any kind), with the subtitles turned on. I have no way to turn off the subtitles, nor could I fast-forward, or skip chapters, or... anything. It's either play or stop.

Other movies I can control with the Oppo remote control...

So, what determines how a given DVD's iso is going to behave with Mezzmo?

Hi swest,

Typically, when you cannot FF/REW your video, it suggests that Mezzmo server is transcoding your video on-the-fly and streaming it to your device. Many devices don't let your FF/REW a file that is transcoding on-the-fly and will block you from FF/REW features on your device. You can check this by going to the Transcoding pane in Mezzmo and see if your file is listed there when streaming it to your device. There may be several reasons why Mezzmo server is transcoding this DVD rip and not your others. For example, it may be burning subtitles, or have incompatible audio or video codecs, or have too high video bitrate, etc. I suggest you right-click on this video in Mezzmo and click 'Get FFmpeg Information'. And, then do the same for a DVD rip that does work fine. Post that information here or email it to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll be able to tell you what' s happening.

To get around the lack of FF/REW when transcoding on-the-fly, then you can pre-transcode your video(s) before streaming them. See this FAQ about pre-transcoding - http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread.php/6025-Tutorial-Pre-transcoding-Files.

Little by little I'm getting further along here... but I have a long ways to go. I think I mentioned before that this is my first ever venture into ripping, storing, and then playing back videos... so I have no knowledge base whatsoever.

And, yes, I right-clicked on the video thumbnail and checked out its subtitles. I removed all of them, and now the video is controllable (and doesn't show subtitles).
