View Full Version : Windows media player (WMP) client loses folder structure

I'm aiming to stream to a PCs as well as the TV, and I'm having problems with Media Player. There don't seem to be many DLNA clients for PCs, which is odd, so I don't have much choice but to use it.

It connects fine (although detects three instances of Mezzmo, strange) but 'folder view' shows everything in one long, long flat alphabetical list. I've made sure that the Mezzmo device profile is WMP, and I'm using Windows 7, fully patched, Media player 12.

I know I could just share folders in Windows, but then I'd have two sharing strategies to maintain. 'Plan B' is to standardise on folder shares and give up on DLNA but that seems to be technologically looking backwards.

Suggestions to fix WMP12, or of another client I could use, would be welcome!

You have done everything right.

Windows Media Player does lump all music into one folder/playlist, which I agree is not very useful. And, it does not display your Mezzmo playlists.

I cannot recommend another Windows DLNA client application - but perhaps some other Mezzmo users can share their experiences?

It detects three instances probably because you have three NICs on the PC running Mezzmo (or multiple IP addresses). You can tell Mezzmo to use only one via the Media Device Properties dialog.

We do plan to implement Mezzmo playlists in WMP soon.

Hi Rilian,

I installed XBMC (http://xbmc.org) on my laptop which offers (among other functionality) a DLNA client and it streams from Mezzmo (even over wireless!) very nicely. As a bonus, it remembers the last viewed position in all your videos between sessions and offers the choice of resuming.

Dennis and Paul,

Just for fun, I tested with two PCs running XBMC and a Bravia TV simultaneously streaming from Mezzmo with no problems. The server is nothing special (3 years old - Win 7).

Once again, guys - Well Done!

Cheers,
Paul.

Thanks! And yes, I agree with recommending XBMC.
