I have had the purchased Mezzmo Windows version for a couple of years now and I use it to stream content to my Samsung TV. In order for my android devices to receive the same content being streamed from my PC, do I need to pay for the $4 for the Mezzmo Android app?

You can use any app on your Android device that has DLNA/UPnP features. Search in the Google Play store and you will find several.

We do strongly recommend using our Mezzmo Android app with Mezzmo server though. It works perfectly with Mezzmo server and has quite a few extra benefits over other Android apps. Namely:

You can view full text metadata, poster artwork and backdrop artwork for your files when browsing from your Mezzmo server.
You can rate your files (i.e. favorites) and this is stored back in your Mezzmo library.
You can select subtitles and audio languages for your videos.
You can enter a PIN code into Mezzmo Android to bypass any content rating restrictions.
You can connect to, browse and stream from your Mezzmo library whilst inside your home or outside your home.
Has built-in video player, music player and photo viewer so you can stream & play all your files from Mezzmo server directly to Mezzmo Android app.
Casts videos, music and photos to Google Chromecast dongles.
Has a built-in DLNA media server inside the Mezzmo Android app that lets you stream any videos, music and photos stored on your Android device to other DLNA/UPnP devices in your home.
Works on Android tablets, smartphones, Android TV and Amazon Fire TV devices.

Mezzmo Android app is a separate purchase from Google Play store. There is also a 15-day trial Mezzmo Android app in Google Play store so you try this first to see if you like it before buying.
