Do you know if Mezzmo works on the NVidia Shield Android TV? I was able to install it and browse everything. When I play any kind of video, the screen goes black and stays that way. The only way I can get anything to play is by unchecking the use internal video player.

Thank you

Yes - Mezzmo server does stream well to NVIDIA Shield's default media player. But we really recommend you installing our Mezzmo Android app onto your NVIDIA Shield. It is a great media player for Android TV-based devices like the Shield. It lets you browse all your Mezzmo library on your PC, displays full metadata, and has a built-in video player, music player and photo slideshow viewer. Search for 'Mezzmo' on Google Play store on your NVIDIA Shield to install it.

Hey Paul. That's what I installed.

I can browse everything I have and see all the metadata being displayed. Any video I try to play the screen goes black and sits there until I hit back. Nothing ever pops up on the server saying I'm streaming a file. I can do it with my phone no problem so I know everything is working fine.

Check the device profile assigned to your NVIDIA Shield in the Media Devices dialog. It should be 'Conceiva Mezzmo (Android)'. Also, make sure transcoding is turned on. Two places to check this - (i) the Transcoding Settings dialog, and (ii) the Device Settings dialog (Transcoding tab) for your NVIDIA Shield device (go to Media Devices dialog and edit your device to get to the Device Settings dialog).

Paul,

Here's what I show...

Device - Mezzmo (Android SHIELD Android TV) (Local) - Checked
Server - Mezzmo 10.0.0.3 Current Server - Checked

I have 4 pictures attached. There are 2 that look similar because I tried both wired and wireless. Both have exactly the same options as shown961962963964

Your settings look fine. Please email us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll determine why the internal video player in Mezzmo (Android) app is displaying black instead of the actual video.

Paul - I figured it out. I uninstalled the program and re-installed. When I first launched it, it asked me if I wanted to share my pics, music and videos with my PC. I said yes and it now works. I don't remember seeing it when I first installed so I must have hit a button on accident. Thanks for your help

Hello - I have the current shield that's capable of h.265 playback, 4K, as well as passthrough of DTS, DTS-HD, TrueHD etc. The profile definition for the 'Conceiva Mezzmo (Android)' seems overly restrictive, and is causing transcoding where it's not necessary (I.e., AC3 only, 1080p limit etc ). I need to avoid trancoding all together. Is there an alternative profile that can support the sheld's current feature set?

Thanks.

If you don't think there is anything you need to transcode you can ry disabling transcoding for the device in the device profile. That way nothing gets transcoded. I have it set that way for most of my devices. For testing you can try the Kodi profile. It will play everything you mentioned without transcoding.

That sorted it, thanks.

The Mezzmo android app now uses libVLC as the video player which supports passthrough but we are unable to test this here, please join the beta https://play.google.com/apps/testing/conceiva.mezzmo.pro if you would like to try passthrough
