View Full Version : Android App seems to struggle with playing multiple audio files

Maybe I am missing something when using the Mezzmo Android App to stream audio but it seems like the app is very inconsistent in playing the "Next" file in an album or playlist. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. Often when it does there is a large gap of 30 seconds to 1 minute before the next file begins playing. Am I missing a setting or just trying to play things incorrectly?

Thanks for alerting this to us. We have not experienced it here. Please email us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll get a set of Mezzmo Android logs from you. They may help us explain what you are experiencing.

Paul,

I am seeing similar behavior with the new version. I have a Nexus 7 tablet and I typically stream to a Yamaha RX-A3020 receiver. If you need another set of logs, let me know. I've been troubleshooting it as a potential wireless issue up till now but it seems more inconsistent than the previous version..

Hi Smitbret,
can you please tell us more about the device you are streaming to so we can investigate? The Mezzmo app is sending GetPositionInfo messages to the device every second to update the progress bar on the playing page or the mini control on the media page, possibly these messages could be flooding the device. Please try going to the Playlist page in the app as this will hide both progress bars and cause the messages not to be sent then see if the problem moving to the next song still occurs.

I have the problem with a Blackberry Priv (Marshmallow) and a Kindle Fire HD 6 (Fire OS). I tried the web interface yesterday while I was on the road for a couple of hours and the gap between tracks would often vary between 15 & 35 seconds. Maybe this is considered normal.....?

I tried the Playlist view and gaps between track playback while roaming around my home and yard (on the LAN, not remote access) varied between 18 seconds to over a minute.

Hi,
the Mezzmo Android app sets an alarm timer for the duration of the song and when this expires then next song is played if the current song has finished, can you please check to see if the duration of the songs are reported correctly in the Mezzmo properties for the songs? Possibly the duration is being read incorrectly and this is causing the longer delay between songs.

So, I checked the album that I had the huge gaps with yesterday and the track lengths vs. the Mezzmo Metadata track lengths were the same.

Today, I played the same album at work, using the web interface on a Windows 7 PC. and the issue did not occur. Next track playback was just as I would expect.

I then played the album back using the web interface on my Blackberry Priv with work's WiFi and I am still getting gaps of 10-20 seconds or so where I will watch the track end and the new track pops up on the screen but playback won't begin for that handful of seconds.

Version 2.0.8 is currently in beta release on Google Play, are you using 2.0.8 or 2.0.7? If you are using 2.0.8 please try leaving the beta by going to https://play.google.com/apps/testing/conceiva.mezzmo.pro then select to leave the beta and uninstall the app then re-install it from Google Play and try playing some music files to see if the gap problem still occurs.

I think I have reproduced the issue here so we will investigate to fix this before the final release of the beta.

I'm on 2.0.7.

I think it is odd that my Android devices have the same issue whether it is the App or the Web Login. Windows via Web Login is fine. I have tried several albums on my Win 7 work computer in the last couple of days and they all move from track to track without issue.

It could be a bandwidth issue where the default packet size of 64000 is not delivering the data fast enough, we have sent Smitbret a new profile with a larger packet size to try. Please send an email to support [at] conceiva [dot] com if you would like to try this profile.

So far the profile update has resolved the long intermittent gaps I have been seeing when playing multiple music files. I am still testing.

We have just made a fix to the Mezzmo Android app for devices running KitKat or higher where the alarm timing was inexact and android would group alarms together so the delay between songs could be longer than it should be. The new beta has this set to force an exact time for the alarm set for the end of the song so the next song plays immediately.
