I have a question about metadata. I've been using external files for movie metadata. I've tried a couple different metadata sources and I like them, but doesn't fill out all of the categories that can be displayed in Mezzmo. So.. I started opening the properties box on movies and selecting the button on the bottom - Get Online Video Metadata and then locking the movie. Is there an easier way to do this? Just thought I'd ask before I go through a rather large collection.

2nd part of this question is that I'm going to be replacing a hard drive. If I have all of my metadata this way and all files locked - I'm going to copy them all over to the new drive (will be same drive letter). Do I have to go through this process again? As far as I can tell, it's not writing anything to the disk.

Thank you

Hi,
you can use Maintain Library or select the files you want to change and right-click then select Maintain Files and this will allow you to update the metadata of all the files using an automatic online metadata lookup. Make sure to select to update file properties and metadata and update all files and this will replace the existing metadata with the results of the online lookup.

If the path to your files remains the same then Mezzmo will be able to match the file with the metadata in the database. If the path to your files changes you can use http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?id=updating_your_mezzmo_library_after_mov ing_media_files&s[]=move&s[]=files

Peter,

Thanks for the response. I must be doing something wrong. I cleared out all old metadata so all I had was the filename and a trailer. In the metadata settings, I unchecked everything except for the option to get the metadata online. I right clicked the folder I wanted to maintain and everything was checked, including the metadata and properties check box. After maintaining the files, the picture didn't change and there was no metadata filled in. I can then go in and click that button in properties to get the online metadata but that's it. Am I missing something?

Hi,
possibly the settings in 'Metadata Retrieval Settings' are set not to get online metadata, please make sure 'Get text metadata and artwork from internet web sites' is checked in http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?id=metadata_retrieval_settings then try Maintaining again.

Peter,

Anything else I can be missing? In the metadata settings, I unchecked everything except for the option to get the metadata online.

Hi,
can you please post a screenshot of the metadata settings and also of your Maintenance settings so we can investigate further?

Here you go. Attaching files.
1 - Shows you what metadata looks like if I hit the button on the bottom to get online metadata manually.
2 - I had external files in the folder. I deleted them to only have movie and trailer.
3 - I changed metadata retrieval settings to only get online.
4 - Maintain movie folder (double checked metadata settings too)
5 - Results after maintain complete.981982983984985

Thanks for the screenshots, everything looks okay so we will test here to see if we can reproduce the problem.

I tried it here using the same settings and it worked but after it completed if I went to the properties of the file it was still empty so I had to press F5 to refresh the view then when I went to properties it showed the updated metadata. Please try maintaining the files again and press F5 after it completes or navigate to another playlist and back again to load the updated metadata.

No luck Peter. I maintained the folder again, hit F5 (inside and outside of the properties box). I also closed out of Mezzmo and checked after re-opening. Should I try re-installing or waiting until the new version comes out to see if this fixes it? I'm just hoping not to lose the other metadata I already gathered by manually clicking the button and locking the file.

Thanks

Hi,
the next step after this would be to enable diagnostic logging http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?id=using_logging&s[]=diagnostic then after restarting Mezzmo try maintaining a file to generate the metadata then send us the logs at support [at] conceiva [dot] com so we can see if there are any errors occurring.
