Hello,

For Mezzmo 5.0.5.0

filesystem structure:

Music
|-A
|-Artist
|-folder.jpg (artist/band art)
|-Album
|-folder.jpg (album art)

I'm trying to understand where mezzmo will get the art for the following:

a)Backdrops (Album artist and Album). (I know of the 'get backdrop' check box but I'm not sure which particular file(s) it can use (and the order)
b)Album artist art work. It appears it's just using the first album's folder art and not using the folder.jpg I have placed in the root of the artist's folder

I'm familiar with the metadata retrieval screen and where Mezzmo will look to get art for Music and Folders/Playlists but I can't seem to get the intended result. I have turned off the internet based metatdata sources for Music and Folders.

As a bonus question - is there a way to have mezzmo not use the album coverart for each track in the album and instead use a generic place holder?

Thanks!

Peter

Hi,
for folder artwork Mezzmo will try to get the poster and backdrop from the first file in the folder. If you have the box checked in Metadata Retrieval Settings to use folder.jpg then Mezzmo will try to find the folder.jpg file when setting the poster for the folder.

Thanks Peter!

Ok, from my previous layout and having folder.jpg selected in the metadata settings, I should expect "|-folder.jpg (artist/band art)" to be the folder art and backdrop art for the artist level folder? (in my album artist active playlist view with a hierarchy of artist and then album)

(is it the music metadata or folder/playlist metadata tab for this folder level art?)

Yes that is correct, the folder.jpg if it exists will be used for both the poster and backdrop.

Ok, thank you for confirming. That is not what I'm seeing, let me do a little more testing to confirm my results.

I think I see what is happening.

The top-level folder I added to Mezzmo that contains all my music has the expected behavior. The artist folder is the folder.jpg at the artist level of the directory and uses the same image for the backdrop. The individual album's art is correct (album level folder.jpg)and the backdrop for those albums is the same folder.jpg

However, the album artist active playlist does not. It uses the first album's art for the artist art. The album art is correct, it's just that artist level art that is not.

Active playlist artwork is set differently to folder artwork, active playlist artwork will get the artwork from the first file in the playlist. The active playlist does not reference the folder structure when getting the artwork so it does not look for the folder.jpg.

Hi Peter,

Extending on the subject: I observe that my Mezzmo music playlists when streamed through several streaming clients do not show folder artwork.
I am syncing the entire music directory structure to my Synology NAS which runs its own DLNA server and from there the same streaming clients that do not see folder artwork from Mezzmo see folder artwork from my NASes DLNA server.

In Mezzmo's console the folder artwork is displayed but that is of no use when accessing the content from the DLNA clients.

I have checked that the (normally hidden) folder.jpg files are there on my PC (wiith Mezzmo accessing the dir structure) and are also copied to my NAS.
All title artwork is streamed and displayed as expected - my question is really only about the folder artwork.

Hi Befi,
it may be that the clients require a upnp icon section, we can add this into the profile if you can tell us which profile is being used by the clients.

Hi Peter,

I am using several DLNA clients:
1. The mconnect DLNA app on several iOS devices
2. A Yamaha NP-2000 streamer controlled via a Yamaha controller app on several iOS devices - the Yamaha NP-2000 so far using the Generic NTSC profile

The iOS devices use the Generic NTSC profile irrespective of the app I am actually using.
The mconnect DLNA client and Yamaha controller app show the same behvaiour regd folder artwork when connecting to Mezzmo (iow. NO folder artwork)

I am able and willing to apply an existing device profile if you can recommend viable alternatives.

Hi BeFi,
can you please try the Persona Software Media Connect profile for mconnect on iOS to see if this works better? The profile used for the iOS device will be used to create the URLs for the Yamaha when used as a controller so this may also fix the thumbnails on the yamaha.

Hi Peter,

I just tried with the Persona Profile with no effect on folder artwork in mconnect yet.

I did restart the Mezzmo server process after changing the media devices entry to Persona xxxx.

Hi BeFi,
this profile does not have the upnp icon setting, can you please try the Micca Media Center profile as a test to see if the thumbnails appear as this has the upnp icon setting.

Hi Peter,

Just tried with Micca Media Center - nop, doesn't show folder art.

FYI: I did restart the media server after the change and verified the ip-address of my device.

Just to be sure: I am talking streaming FLAC music, not mp3!

Hi BeFi,
I reproduced it here, go to 'Media Devices' and double-click the device in the list then on the Performance tab check the box to Deliver folder artwork to the device and this should show folder icons. You can use this with the Generic Profile also since it is playing your files well currently, so I would change back to the Generic profile then make the change to Deliver folder artwork.

Superb, Peter!
Works for all my OS devices and DLNA controller aps in use.
I now feel so stupid having missed that flag in the first place.
