hi i have noticed when you add a movie like this eg this.is.a.movie and try to add it to the server the server cannot find the file info on the net due to the dots as soon as i remove the dots and press search it finds all the info eg name, ratings egeg is there a way to tell the server when adding or looking for a movie info on the internet to not include the dots. Maybe we can have a option to add a list of things that the server will not include in the search. Or even make the dot replace with just a space will work

thanks

Hi Stewart,
I have tried reproducing this here but I am unable to reproduce the problem, when I add a movie such as 'The.Simpsons.movie.mp4' Mezzmo removes the dots and replaces them with spaces for the lookup. Can you please provide an example of the filename where this problem occurs?

hmmm its seems like if the file name is like (this is the movie.mp4) with spaces in it when it adds it to the lib its adding the dots not shore why but when this happens it will not find any details on the net i have pictures with you can get from here https://www.dropbox.com/s/uo3imyxjxrrb58p/dots-problem.rar?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/uo3imyxjxrrb58p/dots-problem.rar?dl=0)they are ziped up hope this helps

I understand better what is happening now, thanks for the screenshots. You are using the filename as the title and this is why the dots are left in for the metadata lookup. I will test this here with the filename as the title to try and reproduce.

yes i just use what ever the file name it is i don't change it so i guess it just picks up on that. I thougth it would go this eg if a files is downloaded like (this is the movie.mp4 then it would just add it like that if this was the case it would work fine but because it has spaces it adds dots when this happens it will search the net for the details (this.is.the.movie) and it will not find any details because of the dots. If there was a way to add to a list that mezzmo would not include in its search eg the dots that would be good. It really needs a list because i have also seen files downloaded that already contains dots instead of spaces. If there was a list we could add to we could add anything in there to tell mezzmo not to include it in a search as im shore there are other thinks that will upset the search. thanks

I have tried again to reproduce this using the filename as the title but in the properties when I add the file I always get the dots replaced with spaces, in the list it shows the file with the dots in the title but I can get online metadata from properties and it uses the title with spaces. Possibly you have disabled a setting in Metadata Retrieval Settings or some other setting that is causing this? We used to have a setting in Mezzmo that would add the titles to the db using the filename but since Display Titles were implemented this is no longer used, possibly you have this old flag still enabled in your MezzmoMediaServer.ini file, can you please send us this file to support [at] conceiva [dot] com (you will find it in your Mezzmo database folder, find this location in Options).

have you tried the other way around eg add a file name with spaces and no dots eg (this is the movie.mp4) i think i may of had it around the wrong way it seems that if the file name has spaces the software will add the dots then this is where the problem is i think. any way ill send you the file still thanks

Thanks, I tried using your settings here from the MezzmoMediaServer.ini and the file with dots in the filename had the dots replaced with spaces when I added it to Mezzmo. I then tried again using the same filename from your screenshots and I reproduced the problem. Mezzmo is detecting the file as a series because of the 1993.1080p, this is sometimes used for a season.episode notation so this is detected as season 1993 episode 108. I am testing a change that removes noise words like 1080p before doing the check so if this works I will send you a patch.
