I have upgraded my Win10 Pro server to Creators Update 1703 (Build 15063.13) today.
Since then the Mezzmo Media Server process fails to start with Error 1053 "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".

Logfiles from two failed requests to start the media server from the Mezzmo GUI attached.

Bernhard

I have exact same issue after upgrading to Win 10 Creator Update... Repair using setup file didn't help. Tried uninstall Mezzmo and install it again, this time I get "The Mezzmo media server could not be registered on your computer"

Hi,
you can try going to 'Media Server Settings' and set the Mezzmo server to run as a Windows Console process to see if the server starts. If it does start correctly and run you can then try going back and changing it to run as a Windows Service again to see if it will start.

Hi,
you can try going to 'Media Server Settings' and set the Mezzmo server to run as a Windows Console process to see if the server starts. If it does start correctly and run you can then try going back and changing it to run as a Windows Service again to see if it will start.

It does work in console mode, but trying to change back to service same error appears. I don't see mezzmo service in windows services after clean install, maybe there is a way to register it manually?

When you change from console mode to service mode Mezzmo should automatically create the service.

It does not... After clean install I get this error:

After a clean install the Mezzmo server should be set to run as a console process then you would need to change it to run as a Windows service and at this point do you see this error? It may be that the service registration is failing for some reason, please enable diagnostic logging http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?id=using_logging&s[]=diagnostic then try setting the Mezzmo server to run as a service and then after the error appears send the logs to support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we will have a look.

I changed the server process to console mode. Doing so I got a popup from Windows Defender Firewall to allow access – which I did (for Local Networks).
I could then successfully start the server process via the console.

Then I tried to switch back to service mode which immediately created error messages and led to a dead-end loop from which I could only escape by killing Mezzmo entirely.
After restarting Mezzmo’s console I could revert to console mode which seems to work ok,

Logs of the entire series of actions have been sent via separate email.

We will try installing the Creators update here to reproduce the error.

Same here. Did a clean reinstall of Mezzmo - didn't help. It works as a console application, which lets me watching movies for now but I would strongly prefer to run Mezzmo as service.

Feedback from the Thread-Starter: Patch has fixed the issue for me too.

For those interested: The services-entry for the Mezzmo media server is now labelled <hostname>, i.o.w. carries the same name as the server PC in your home network.

Great support from the Conceiva team in analysing and fixing the issue for us. Big Thanks to Peter!

Do you have an estimated date for the release of the new version? i have the same problem and i suppose that all user with Windows 10 have the same problem because the Windows Update upgrade all systems to Creator Update.

Regards.

Hello,
Windows 10 Creators Updated was released beginning of April.
It's almost 3 months now and you have not made a release to address a critical defect. Critical severity as it renders the product unusable on the widely spread operating system which auto-updates itself.
I appreciate you provided a link to the Beta however it's still not release and by definition may contain other defects.
Altogether it seems you have serious issues supporting the product.
Does that mean you are slowing the development on this product and we should expect EOL soon?

By default on install the Mezzmo server runs as a Windows Console process so it is only if the user selects to run the server as a service does the issue with the Creators update appear. The issue appeared in the middle of a release cycle for us so we did not want to push out an update that has not been fully tested and this is why the update has not been released yet. We have not found any issues in the current beta so it is currently the release candidate for Mezzmo 5.1.2.0 and will be released as soon as we have completed our testing.

Thanks for the beta 1.5.2.0 which fixes the creators update service issue.

I wonder when this will get out of beta, it was first mentioned on the 13th of April (page 2) and it's now the 28th of July. It would have saved me some time if Mezzmo had asked to update its self some time before MS inflicted me with the creators update.

Peter

Then plan currently is to release Mezzmo 5.1.2.0 in the middle of August as we are still fixing issues reported by beta testers.
