Running v5.1.1.0 on win10, and using Roku app v1.2 to display photos on PC. I have multiple folders of photos, which are defined in win10 mezzmo. I see all the folders in the roku app. When I open a folder, it displays 1 of 148, for example. Do I have to somehow select all of these images for them to be displayed? If I press OK on the remote, sometimes the app will display many photos, other times the app will display only 3-4 photos and then stop. The behavior seems to be erratic. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
please try installing the beta Mezzmo Roku app from https://my.roku.com/add/MezzmoBeta to see if this works better, we have made some changes in this area.

The 1.4 beta performs better. Still had a couple of times where the slideshow stopped, but in general is much better.
It seems in this beta, that I am not able to change the image display interval. The option is there in settings, but can't seem to get there. Do you see this also?
Also, is the pause key on the remote supposed to pause the slideshow?
Thank you.

This leads me to a question.... The Roku app looks suspiciously like the web client for Mezzmo. Is it just a "fancy wrapper" for the web client?

I tested the beta here and I can get to the slideshow interval value and change it, the PIN item should be selected by default when you enter settings then you can get to the slideshow value by pressing down on the remote.

The Roku app is a completely separate client to the web client, they share a similar design but the app was created from the ground up.

So I am having problems getting the beta app to work. I am not sure what to pit in for the server. It says http://ip:10.8.5.1/desc The 10.8.5.1 is my IP address for my Mezzmo server. It won't let me add it. The on-screen keyboard is all jacked up and not aligned, I am trying to add it from my phone keyboard.

It just plain ain't working.

The url should be http://10.8.5.1:53168/desc, you have put the ip where the port should be - the text ip needs to be replaced with the actual ip of the pc.

Ok. That worked perfectly. Thank you.

I had asked this earlier, but may have been overlooked. While using the Roku app to display photos, should the pause function on the remote be functional?

Currently the pause only works for music, we can add support for pause while playing a photo slideshow. We will release a new beta for the Roku app with support for the pause/play button in a photo slideshow.

An update of the Roku beta app is now available, go to system settings and select update on your Roku to update the app.

Is there an official forum to discuss the Roku app specifically? Maybe it wouldn't hurt to have one.

I'm not sure what the differences are between the built-in Roku Ultra movie app vs. the Mezzmo app, but it looks like their app is doing some sort of cleanup/up-sampling/HDR tweaks or something to give a better (cleaner and ore vibrant) output vs. Mezzmo.

The Mezzmo app is using the built-in video player of the Roku, just with modified colours and styles. The Roku app should use the same player.

There is no official forum to discuss the Roku app, if the amount of discussion of the app increases we may add a separate forum.

Weird... Wonder why there is a noticeable difference in the way videos look.

Could you take photos of the same video playing in each player and post them here or send them to support [at] conceiva [dot] com so that we can see the difference?

I took pictures with my phone, but they look virtually identical in the phone pics, which I would tend to expect given the state of phone cameras.

Possibly the Roku app is doing something different to Mezzmo but if it looks the same in the photos then it must be very subtle.

It's definitely pretty subtle. It just feels like upsampling or HDR or both. I'm not using it at 4k. I only have a 1080p TV hooked to it.

The Roku 7.2 firmware supports setting the resolution and framerate of the video so possibly the Roku player is doing this, it could be forcing a larger or smaller resolution that is having an effect. The Mezzmo app does not set this and leaves it unlimited. https://sdkdocs.roku.com/display/sdkdoc/Video?utm_content=buffer22624&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer MaxVideoDecodeResolution allows capping the resolution so it is possible that the Roku app is limiting it to 720p.

Peter, thank you for the support and the implementation of the pause function for photos in the beta app!

I know it upsamples all of the 720p stuff, it says so. I was comparing like-for-like on a 1080p movie. It doesn't seem to upsample SD movies, which is fine. I expected that. It's mostly older stuff I have that is SD, so I don't expect much out of those, even if they DID get upsampled....hehehe

I just figured that I would mention it just in case you wanted to look into it while it was still in beta.

I have found one limitation that both the Roku video app and the Mezzmo app seem to have. Neither seems to play the audio on videos encoded with DTS 5.1 audio.

Peter

The Roku only supports DTS as passthrough, so if you do not have an Audio Receiver connected that supports DTS passthrough it will not play https://sdkdocs.roku.com/display/sdkdoc/Audio+and+Video+Support

Yeah. I expected that from the Roku app itself. Is there any way that the Mezzmo app can be made to play them by a means other than transcoding first?

Peter

The app is using the Roku's video player so we are limited by the supported formats, Mezzmo should transcode the file on the fly to change the audio from DTS to a supported codec.
