I want to play my music in a random order (shuffle) and per FAQ I should "Click the Shuffle icon on the Play pane"

But I cannot find the Play Pane :o

Cheers,
Mark

Sorry for the confusion - we've removed the built-in player from Mezzmo a few months ago. I'll get the FAQs updated.

So is there no way to have a random playlist?

Some devices allow you to play files in random order - what device are you streaming to?

Samsung Blu-ray Players (BD-C5500 & HT-C5500).......... they don't seem to have option to play randomly. Just what ever order is listed

A future version of Mezzmo will actually allow you to re-order your playlists from within Mezzmo, so maybe then it'll be possible.

Can I please bring up this feature request again? (not that I need permission - I am anyway :D)

I was helping a friend set up a DLNA server the other day and installed Mezzmo & Serviio, mainly to show how much better Mezzmo was.

One thing that caught my eye with Serviio was that, by default, there was a "random" folder created when I added the music folder.

When I accessed this via a Sony BDP-S370 it had a playlist of all the songs that were in the music folder (including sub folders). I exited out of the random folder and accessed it again and all the songs were again listed but in a different order. So it is automatically randomising the songs every time the folder is accessed.

My Sony BDP does not have a random play option on it so Serviio is the one doing the randomising.

Although there was no "random" folder for pictures I'm sure it could also be done.

My question is, if Serviio can randomise playlists at the server end is there a way Mezzmo can do it as well?

Other than that great feature that Serviio has Mezzmo beats it in all other areas by a mile!!!

Please, please please revisit this request?

the Samsung 5500 and 6500 do have a shuffle feature. None of the Sony's do. To access the Samsung feature, select a song to play and let it start playing. Select "tools" and a drop down will pop up and you can choose "shuffle".

Yes, we'll have such "random" folders implemented soon :)

The C5500 will play random, with music at least. Once yuo select a tune and it begins playing, select "tools" and then arrow right or left until you get "shuffle". I learned Sony players do not have and random feature and that is the reason I took my new Sony back and bought Samsung.

My question is a bit off topic but in relation to reordering playlists, when I create a playlist of JPEGs in Mezzmo it dutifully places my files in the order that I add them - exactly how I would like to be able to view them on my Panasonic TV. However when I play the playlist through the Panasonic they are displayed in alphabetical order - not in the order which I added them and they appear in my playlist in Mezzmo on my PC. So my question is, is this a limitation of the TV or is it Mezzmo and are there any plans to implement the feature I want?

When files are delivered to a device they're sorted alphabetically (in most cases). Some devices will actually ask for a specific sort order as well, so that will override any sorting you may have in the playlist. In your particular case, I think that the files are unsorted in Mezzmo (which is the default), thus they appear in the order you added them in, but are sorted alphabetically when sent to the TV. At the moment, there's still no functionality to sort playlists/files from within Mezzmo (with the exception of smart/active playlists where you can specify a sorting order), but it's coming soon.
