View Full Version : No HEVC x265 Support over DLNA LG

Hi everyone....took me 4 years to realize that my 4K LG tv does not support x265 over DLNA (Only USB).... So my question is to other tv owners is...does your TV support this? I want a new TV now because of this, but want to make sure that it is supported.

Thanks!

I solved this problem by buying Rokus.... I, however, haven't checked my 2017 model LG TV to see if it has built-in h.265 support. I will post back when I test it.

So I just verified. h.265 Main 10 is transcoded, not played natively in the 20017 model TVs with up-to-date firmware.

The best way to test this is to turn off transcoding and then stream the file. Mezzmo will list and stream the file to your TV without any changes. If you TV plays the file, then it supports playing it. Let us know if that is the case and we can create a device profile to match the capabilities of your TV.

To turn off transcoding for your TV, go to the Media Devices dialog and edit your TV. On the Device Settings dialog, go to the Transcoding tab and uncheck the transcoding checkbox. Click OK to save your changes. Restart your Mezzmo server and tray streaming now. After your testing, turn transcoding back on.

Manually turning transcoding off and restarting the services worked. It played the h.265 Main 10 4k video natively.

OK - that's good news. Right-click on the video in Mezzmo and click 'Get FFmpeg Information'. Email this information to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com and we'll provide an updated device profile.

Unless I did something wrong, that didn't fix it. I put the device profile and XML in the ProgramData folder like it said, but there was no All Users like it said to. Then I exited the Windows app and opened it back up and selected LG (2017) and checked to see that transcoding was enabled. It still transcoded it.

Did you stop / restart the Mezzmo server using the Stop Media Server button ? This is required to read a new profile. Exiting the Windows application and restarting doesn't restart the Mezzmo server, it just restarts the Windows Mezzmo application.

OK - please turn on logging in Mezzmo (see http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?id=using_logging). Restart your Mezzmo server and try streaming the HEVC video again. When Mezzmo starts to transcode your video whilst streaming it to your LG TV, then you can stop Mezzmo server and exit Mezzmo (Windows) app. Zip up all the logs and email them to us at support [at] conceiva [dot] com.

We will add this device profile to the new Mezzmo version that we are preparing now. All users will get it via Auto Update.

I've got a Samsung UN55KS8000.
I'm using Mezzmo's profile Samsung K.
Transcoding is ON.
All is well, except for *some* x265 files.
For this one particular flick, it plays fine on my PC (via VLC), but will not stream.
I tried turning off transcoding, made no difference.
For the most part, Mezzmo is fabulous at handling x265 files types -- it has no problem even with 10bit, which trip up most of my friends.
So, I'm just curious about this one !@#$%! video file that will not play, so that I can avoid those in the future.
What can I tell you about this file so that you can help me identify the problem?
Thanks in advance...

Can you please post the ffmpeg information of the file so that we can check to see if there is anything that might indicate a problem? Right-click on the file in Mezzmo and select Get FFmpeg Information then copy and paste it into a post here.

The information does not indicate anything that might be a problem, the file matches the device profile so no transcoding will be performed. Possibly there is something about the mkv container that the TV cannot decode, you could try remuxing the video to another mkv container to see if the TV can play it or copy the file to a USB drive and plug it into the TV.

The information also indicates that the version of ffmpeg you are using is not the version included with Mezzmo so this could cause transcoding to fail, you can download the installer from our website and run it to restore the ffmpeg version or go to Transcoding Settings in Mezzmo and change the path to ffmpeg back to the original path if you did not overwrite the original ffmpeg.exe.

I did the Mezzmo reinstall, and the one particular x265 vid in question still will not play on my TV.
I don't know what "remuxing the video to another mkv container" means, but it isn't important --
please do *not* waste your time trying to educate me, because
a) I'm an old dog that doesn't need new tricks, and
b) I have another copy of the video that *does* play properly via Mezzmo.
Thank you for your usual courtesy and expertise.
