Hello,

I just built a new computer and I cannot get web access to work while my TorGuard VPN is on. I have a static IP address with my cable company and have always pointed to this address, whether VPN was on or not. I never used my VPN IP address when connected. Since building the new computer, web access will only work if I turn off the VPN. I've also tried changing the IP address (URL) to point to the local and remote IP's my VPN has when it connects and I can't get through to the server. I've tried turning off my Windows firewall and that didn't work.

When I go to Media Server Settings, under Broadcast to these networks, it has my local lan IP and the local ip listed for the VPN (both checked). If I go into a user in web access, I've copied the URL for outside my home (remote IP of the VPN) and it doesn't go through.

Anyone have any ideas. This did work on my old computer.

Thank you for your assistance.

Web access listens on the server port (53168 by default) for incoming connections, you will need to make sure that you have the port forwarding or DMZ settings in your router set to forward requests received to the Mezzmo server on the PC. So in your router you possibly have the port forwarding setup to forward requests to your old computer's IP address, you will need to change this to the new computer's IP address.

Peter,

Couple things... I changed the media server port and the web access port to 8080 and have the port forwarding set up in my router to point to my old IP address of the PC. The PC was removed from the network and the new PC has the same IP as the old. As far as I know, it's identical to the way I used to have it. Web access does work when I have my VPN off so I know the forwarding works fine. I'm just not sure if I'm missing something else that's simple because I can't get it to work with the VPN on. It did prior to the new computer being installed so I don't believe it to be anything with the router.

I wasn't sure if having 8080 as both the media server port and web access port would conflict (as far as I know, it never did - but I had another post saying I would my local server would stop playing when someone else connected). I tried to follow the directions online (to get away from the 8080) using 53168 with a different web port and couldn't get it working with or without vpn on.

Router - TCP_UDP forwarding to port 8080 to 192.168.1.42
Mezzmo - Media Server and Remote Server Port - 8080

Thanks for the extra information, possibly the VPN is binding to port 8080 so you could try using port 8081 to see if this works. It does not matter if the media server port and external access port are the same in the Media Server Settings dialog, the external access port is just used to create URLs for you to click on in the Mezzmo application (URLs in the web access use the HOST header to determine the port the request was received on).

Thank you for your response Peter. I tried changing the ports and have the same exact issue. I've opened up a ticket with TorGuard to see if they have any idea why this is happening.

With the VPN on are you able to access the web access on the local network using the LAN IP address of the PC?

With a VPN your remote / client PC binds to the VPN client in the IP stack. At that point you are basically on your local network and tunneling across the Internet. So if you are using a VPN client then you should try connecting to your Mezzmo server like it is local and not using the Internet IP of your router. The Internet IP would be used if you didn't have VPN and were port forwarding from your router directly to Mezzmo. I have mine setup and can do either.
