Ive sort of found information dotted around the forum etc, but just wanted to make sure I was clear.
What im wanting to do is be able to specify an image to use for a given show/folder and likewise a description.
Ideally I want to be able to see this is image whenever that folder shows in a playlist too. Dont want to have to setup the artwork for a folder in every playlist !

If i've read things correctly I can put a folder.jpg (or poster.jpg) in a given folder and Mezzmo should pick this up and use it as the image for a folder when viewing in kodi or whatever ?
Is there a way I can specify a description too ?
Finally what triggers Mezzmo to grab the above ? I tried putting a poster.jpg in a folder as a test and it doesnt seem to pick it up.

So id have for example
TV Shows
-->24
---->folder.jpg
---->Series 1
------>Episode 1.mkv
etc.

You are correct in your notes. The Mezzmo wiki has more information that will help:

http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?id=folder_artwork

http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?id=folder_properties

http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?id=metadata_retrieval_settings

If any troubles, let us know and we'll help out.

Just make sure that it is the only one image file in the folder. I have had ongoing issues with Mezzmo ignoring the "folder" or "poster" naming and just defaulting to other images in the folder when using playlists. So far, I am unable to predict when it will do it or which files it will pick up but I have to manually edit about 1 out of 10 folders/images. I only have the trouble with TV Series, though. I have figured out that if the title of the folder and video files aren't a perfect match for the title in the metadata then it will ignore the poster even though it is in the same folder. The other ones I cannot figure out.

With movies, it nails it 100% of the time as long as the image file's name is identical to the video file, e.g. <Gladiator (2000).mkv> and <Gladiator (2000).jpg>.

I have found that the surest way to make sure that the descriptions are uniform is with an .nfo file in the folder. If you use Kodi then you are probably familiar with them. Mezzmo can be set to recognize and use the .nfo file for descriptions and metadata. I have moved away from Kodi in lieu of the Mezzmo app since my household is using Amazon FireTVs, but I still use TinyMediaManager to generate my folder art and .nfo descriptions. Just make sure that the .nfo file has the same name as the video file. It works as a backup, too since the .nfo files remain with the video file. If I lose my Mezzmo database for some reason the metadata is still retained and Mezzmo can repopulate everything automatically. Keeps any customizations and edits that way, too.

Further to this I have tried the above.
Example, I have the following folders on the HDD:

TV
->Blackadder
-->Season 1
--->Episode 1.mp4
--->Episode 2.mp4
-->Season 2
--->Episode 1.mp4
--->Episode 2.mp4
poster.jpg
tvshow.nfo

(I've got my other TV in there but ive shown only the relevant folders)

Next I have a number of active playlists.
One such playlist is titled "All TV", has a hierarchy:

Album/Series
->Disc/Season
and a smart filter of

"Filepath", "Starts with", "D:\TV Series"
(D is the root folder my TV files)

With all of the above I run maintain library.
I expected to see an image for Blackadder II that reflects the contents of the poster.jpg when browsing my All Tv playlist - but I do not.
Am I missing something ?

Active playlists are a bit different to folders in that Mezzmo does not look in the folder for the poster, we have added some extra code to search for posters in specific cases where the playlist is a TV episode but the folder names need to match the names of the playlists so in the case of Blackadder the playlist names need to be Blackadder\Season 1 and the file path needs to be Blackadder\Season 1

My playlist has lots of things in ... I have a number of "next unwatched" style ones but with different criteria. I can right click on the folder and set them up manually but I hoped there would be a way for it it to just pull the image from the source folder if it was available :(

Active or Smart playlists will get the poster from the first item in the playlist usually, do you find that this poster is not correct?

Its the folder image and description I was wanting to get working. The one for each show.
Unless I manually add one im most often seen the generic folder icon.

Can you please check to make sure the boxes are checked in the metadata retrieval options for folders http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?id=metadata_retrieval_settings#playlists_ folders_tab
