    Default 8player Issue

    Hi,

I've been using 8player on my iPhone 5S for a few years now without any issues and using the Generic PAL profile on the Mezzmo server (Dell Latitude E6440 with W10). I recently obtained a copy of an album in FLAC format and this wouldn't play, simply skipping over the tracks until it got to the end. So I changed the profile to Mariia Smeshkova 8player (I had used this when I first got 8player but had issues with it - can't recall what they were - so I changed to Generic PAL and that seemed to work fine till I encountered the FLAC issue. Now I have a problem where tracks randomly reset back to the start part way through or repeat on completion. Also, the track timer slider doesn't move (although I can live with that but it might be indicative of the problem). The funny thing is that if I now go back to Generic PAL, I get the same behaviour. I recently downloaded and installed Mezzmo v6 but that hasn't made any difference. Any ideas?

    Regards, Gerry

Using the Generic PAL profile files will be streamed without transcoding as the Generic profile has transcoding off by default. Using the 8 player profile files that are not in the profile will be transcoded which can result in the track timer not moving and other problems playing. You can pre-transcode your flac files using the Generic or 8 player profile http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?...coding_files&s[]=pre&s[]=transcode and this should allow them to play correctly.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for that. The reset and repeat issues are very annoying and seem to occur randomly i.e. there doesn't seem to be a a specific file type where this occurs. Do you have any suggestions as to how I might resolve this?

    Regards, Gerry

    Hi Gerry,

It could be that certain files of different types are being transcoded because they do not match the device profile. You can try selecting from the Tools menu in Mezzmo 'Pre-transcode Library' to pre-transcode all your audio files for the 8 player app to see if this helps.

    Hi Peter,

The vast majority of my tracks are MP3 (at either 256kbps or 320kbps) and in total there is about 350GB of music on my fileserver so I'm a bit reluctant to pre-transcode everything as I imagine that will take up a lot of disk space. I've only recently started having this issue after using 8player for about 5 years. Has anything in Mezzmo v6 changed with respect to 8player? Ideally, I'd like to go back to the 8player and Generic PAL profiles that were shipped with Mezzmo v5. Would it be possible for you to furnish me with copies?

    Regards, Gerry

    Hi Gerry,
the 8 Player and Generic profiles have not changed between version 5.2.0.0 and 6.0.0.0. The 8 player profile indicates a max bitrate for mp3 of 128kbps so most of your files will be transcoded by Mezzmo. Possibly you had transcoding disabled previously and the update enabled transcoding, can you please try going to 'Media Devices' and double-click the device and on the Transcoding tab uncheck the box for transcoding to see if this helps?

    Hi Peter,

Many thanks for that. I've disabled the transcoding and also deleted the transcoded files - everything seems to be working properly now although I expect any FLAC files won't play but I can live with that - I'll probably convert them to MP3 as mostly the speaker(s) I play my phone through aren't good enough for it to make a lot of difference to my ageing ears . Thanks again.

    Regards, Gerry
