Thread: Media Server shows only one external subtitle on TV

  1. #1

Question Media Server shows only one external subtitle on TV

Hello all, so everything is working fine and Mezzmo works pretty well.

My only issue is that per library (or sub-library), only one external subtitle will show.

For example: I have 2 tv-series, The Office and S.H.I.E.L.D. When i access The Office folder, only the first episode's subtitle will be there, same for S.H.I.E.L.D
So it's like, 20 episodes showing and only one external subtitle with apparently a randomized name (ex: taz1l0z1l15z2l25z2l46zvl2zsx78lsrt25de.srt)
While it should be 20 episodes and 20 subtitle files.

I've searched everything and no luck yet. I have disabled transcoding too (my TV supports both the movie type and external subs - i don't have the same issue when adding the tv-series to my flash drive and connecting it to the TV)

    Thanks!

Only one external subtitle is supported per file in DLNA streaming. You can select your preferred language in the subtitle settings in options so that Mezzmo will list the subtitle for the language you prefer.

Thanks for the answer Peter, unfortunately you didn't understand what i'm talking about!

If i have 20 episodes in a folder, only the first episode will have external subtitle. If i delete the first episode, then the second episode (now first) gets the external sub..

The problem is that per folder, there is only one subtitle instead of many..

Mezzmo matches the subtitles to the file based upon the filename of the video file so if there are 20 episodes in a folder and only one subtitle file then Mezzmo will match the subtitle file to the episode with the same filename.

All episodes have subtitles on the media folder. Only first episode has subtitles on TV when using Mezzmo. That's the problem i'm describing since the beginning.

If you go to the properties of each episode in Mezzmo and look at the subtitles tab does each episode have a subtitle listed? Also what make and model is the TV and if the TV supports Android are you using the Mezzmo android app?

Yes they are listed. I'm not using Mezzmo android app, but the native DLNA option of my TV, which is a Toshiba 55U2963DG.

My only workaround so far is: after watching an episode, i'll go to Mezzmo library and delete it. Then the next one will be the one that gets subtitles. It's weird, but per playlist there can only be one external subtitle shown to the TV.

It may be an issue with the TV as Mezzmo will list subtitles for each episode. To confirm this please enable diagnostic logging http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?id=using_logging&s[]=diagnostic then after restarting your Mezzmo media server try browsing to the folder containing the episodes on the TV and play the second episode then send the logs to support [at] conceiva [dot] com

Thanks for the answers Peter. If it's the TV, is there anything i can try out or i'll be forever limited to this issue?

If it is the TV then there may be ways to work around it like putting each episode in it's own folder.
