Thread: Change thumbnail display size on TV

Default Change thumbnail display size on TV

I have been using Mezzmo for many years. in my setup it seems to be the only one that is capable of playing audio in 5.1. GREAT!!!

What I have hated from the start is the way the thumbnails display on my TV. The images are obviously being stretched wide and thus look distorded. They are actually wider and high on the TV screen.

I have read through a ton of threads to see if this could be corrected. On one thread from many years ago a response indicated that such a feature would be added to Mezzmo in order to fix such a problem. Well, considering that years have passed it looks like it never happened.

Is there a way to fix this?

I am using the latest version of Mezzmo and an order Samsung C series TV.

Yes this feature to pad the thumbnails so that they appear correctly on the TV was implemented, are you using the Samsung C profile? In the profile for the jpeg thumbnail it has padded="0" currently which turns off padding. You could try changing to the Samsung C (DD 5.1) profile which has padded="1" to see if the thumbnails appear better.

I did as suggested. I will agree that the thumbnails did change width, however, they now appear with black bars on the left and right. I assume that is the entended results.

What I do notice is that the thumbnails are extremely low quality images because if there is text on the image, there is no way they can be read. Far too pixelated.

Is this the best that can be expected?

The black bars are required to pad the image so that they appear in the correct aspect ratio. You can increase the quality of the video thumbnails in Options in Mezzmo under Streaming. You will need to go to 'Media Devices' and double-click the TV after this and then on the Transcoding tab delete transcoded files as the Posters are not re-created.

I'm pretty sure I followed your instructions properly, but it did not make a difference.

I went to "TOOLS", "OPTIONS", "STEAMING" and then increased the "poster image size".

I then identified the TV under Media Devices, and requested to delete the transcoded data. I let it run and saw no difference when I opened the media player on the TV.

    Did I miss something?

There may be no difference if the original thumbnail size is smaller than the size specified in Options -> Streaming

The device profile size for thumbnails might be too small width="320" height="188" for video so you could try editing the profile in your device profiles folder to increase these values to see if the details become clearer in the thumbnails. You would need to restart your Mezzmo media server and Mezzmo after editing the profile and also deleting the transcoded files.

It may be due to the original poster size being small. If the original poster is small then Mezzmo cannot make it larger. Do you know if your files have posters from jpg files in the same folder as the video or is Mezzmo downloading the poster from the Internet?
