Honestly, tag support in Mezzmo may be ok for The Beatles greatest hits but at this point my feeling is it isn't up to the task for a large classical music library. I say this because I have yet to find a means for displaying a hierarchy that can be described as [ALBUM][WORK][TRACK].
The problem with this is with the more generally used [ALBUM][TRACK] hierarchy Mezzmo seems incapable of displaying the contents of more than work (e.g. compositions by one or more composers) on the screen without using massively long strings of unusable information on the web app screen. The following describes my pain point with just one album...
Assuming the user has drilled into the collection from the Main Music screen into the Folders "playlist" to a sub-folder called "Artists" and then into an artist, Jacqueline du Pré in this instance.
ARTIST: Jacqueline du Pré
The user is presented with a group of albums (just one is shown here) for the selected Artist, and selects one:
ALBUM: Jacqueline du Pré Concerto Collection
The next screen is a group of tiles that, because there is no support for managing WORKS, Mezzmo is forced to display tiles with the following labels.
TITLES:
Boccherini Cello Concerto in B flat major, G482 I. Allegro moderato
Boccherini Cello Concerto in B flat major, G482, II. Andantino grazioso
Boccherini Cello Concerto in B flat major, G482, III. Rondo, Allegro
Delius Cello Concerto, I. Lento
Delius Cello Concerto, II. Con moto tranquillo
Delius Cello Concerto, III. Lento
Delius Cello Concerto, IV. Con moto tranquillo
Delius Cello Concerto, V. Allegramente
Strauss R., Don Quixote Op. 35, i. Introduction [du Pre]
Strauss R., Don Quixote Op. 35, ii. Theme, The Knight of the Mournful Countenance [du Pre]
Strauss R., Don Quixote Op. 35, I. The Adventure with the Windmills [du Pre]
etc...
Unfortunately, non of these titles is even remotely legible due to fonts and screen size constraints.
IF we had support for WORKS as ENTITIES or COLLECTIONS the next screen could be configured to show the following tiles:
WORKS:
Boccherini Cello Concerto in B flat major
Delius Cello Concerto
Strauss R., Don Quixote Op. 35
Then followed by the associated movements (assuming Boccherini Cello Concerto in B flat major is selected):
TRACKS:
I. Allegro moderato
II. Andantino grazioso
III. Rondo, Allegro
ALL of which is easily displayed with the current display constraints.
The only workaround I see would be to break up all albums and feed the individual works to Mezzmo as standalone albums. On it's face it doesn't sound too bad. Now think about doing that with the entire works of J.S. Bach, or multiple complete sets of Beethoven's string quartets.
[aneurism forming]
If I'm missing something I'm literally dying to know what it is.
