is there a way to pre transcode the files into a format of your choosing before streaming the movie to the tv?

Yes of course. First find out what format will work best for you. Do you have 2 or more devices to send to? Then find what is the best format that works for all of them. Then you will need to get the sw to convert your files to that format. Check out Slysoft at http://www.slysoft.com and also the forums at doom9. http://forum.doom9.org Between the two of them you should be able to get anything you need.

And pretranscoding is also a planned feature for a future version, so you'll be able to prepare your library for your device in advance.
