There has been no progress on an iOS version of Mezzmo. There are quite a few good apps available for iOS that can connect to your Mezzmo server and stream content.
Mezzmo Android: Install it on your tablet, smartphone, Android TV or Amazon Fire to browse and stream files from your Mezzmo library to all your devices. Full details at http://www.conceiva.com/products/mez...mo_android.asp
Mezzmo for Kodi Add-on: Install it into Kodi to stream files from your Mezzmo library directly in Kodi. Full details at http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?...odi_user_guide
Mezzmo for Roku App: Install it onto your Roku to stream files from your Mezzmo library. Full details at http://www.mezzmo.com/wiki/doku.php?...oku_user_guide

I use VLC and 8Player. The only thing I usually have to do is restart the Mezzmo Media Service then KILL the iOS app (if it's running) and restart it. THEN it will find the media server. After that, playback is equally reliable on both programs. VLC is notorious for not being able to find the server unless you kill VLC first and re-start it.
This solution to my server not responding issue has worked now for several weeks.
I have this .bat file scheduled to run every 6 hours. I chose 4 times/day because sometimes the server would just not last 24 hours. Of course if the restart happens while you're watching something, that's a problem. So I picked a start time such that the subsequent 6 hour intervals did not occur during times I normally watch Mezzmo content. Just substitute Mezzmo below with whatever name you gave the server in settings.
sc query Mezzmo | FIND "STATE" | FIND "RUNNING"
if errorlevel 1 goto NOT
echo Stopping service...
net stop Mezzmo
timeout 3
net start Mezzmo
goto END
:NOT
echo Service not running
:END
