Metadata Retrieval

Is there anyway to tidy up movie and TV filenames so that I can get a hit on the Metadata? I've got loads of folders that have just got an image from the file on them and no matter what I do, I cannot get any accurate metadata. It's driving me nuts. I used to have to go through them all one by one to get the details, but I just don't have the patience or time to do it anymore. Thanks in advance for any advice?

Getting a few specifics where matching isn't occurring would be helpful. In the interim you can see here for proper naming to improve matching. Also look here for proper metadata retrieval settings. I have 20,000+ items in my library with 100% matching so this is a solvable problem. I also use series.xml files to ensure TV show matching.
