Thread: Chromecast with Google TV fast forward issue

Default Chromecast with Google TV fast forward issue

So I've got this problem which has been bugging me for long enough now that I've finally decided to make a post about it. I have looked for a while, I haven't been able to find any solution.

When using the remote, the only way it seems to fast forward/rewind on the Mezzmo app on the CCwGTV is by pressing the middle button to bring up the tools, and then skipping left or right on the progress bar. This would usually be fine, however it only skips about 5 minutes at a time. It's a pain because if I'm watching something and miss what someone said, have to go back so far that most of the time I don't even worry about it. Unfortunately the Google remote only has a D pad type setup and not dedicated FF and REW buttons. The onscreen forward and back buttons when bringing up the tools only appear to be chapter skip buttons.

Am I doing something wrong here or is there any way to change anything so it only skips 10 seconds or so? This seems to be the case with every type of video file I've tried.

    Thanks heaps

You could try installing another video player app such as MX Player or VLC and then turn off the setting to use the Internal video player in the Mezzmo app settings. Then when you play a video select the other video player app to see if ff and rew work.

This is probably the same issue that I am having with my Rocktek G2. Alot of the newer devices seem to have a "D-Pad" rather than normal FF/RW buttons.

Looking at the Chromecast remote on Google Images, it does use a "D-Pad" like my Rocktech G2 does. It does not have dedicated FF/RW buttons. I'd wager that this is the exact same issue that I am having. That Mezzmo understands dedicated FF/RW buttons, but does not recognize the directional buttons on the "D-Pad".

Thanks so much for that, I finally got around to trying it. I already had VLC but never used it as wasn't very keen on the interface (my young kids use Mezzmo a lot, it's easy for them to navigate). But I changed the setting to use the VLC player in Mezzmo and it works an absolute treat. Just what I was after! I had no idea that was even an option, wish I'd asked a year ago.

Is there any reason why this hasn't been implemented in the stock Mezzmo app for the Chromecast? Maybe ust not enough of a demand for it to be worth making the change.

Anyway, thanks again. Very happy with it now!

There's alot of demand. It's not just Google Chromecast affected by this. There are, literally, dozens of players that have the issue.

We have not had any request for this until now.

I seem to recall making the same request in another thread. Throughout the years, people have commented about the Google devices.

The D-Pad is the way that these devices, especially the Android based ones, are going.
