I'm seriously considering factory resetting one of the Rockteks to see what happens. I mean, it would still be Android 12, but I am wondering if something underlying got tweaked weird by an update somewhere.

The reason I don't use something like Kodi is that it's just "too much". It tries to be everything to everyone, which I get. But that makes it a huge bloated mess of features that you have to spend forever trying to find everything. One of the things I like about the Mezzmo Android app is that it's clean and clear. It does one thing. Display and play media. I don't have to flip through 57 menus/pages to get to where I want to be. Some people love it, and I have no beef with that. Different strokes and all that.
Yeah, I understand completely about Kodi, which is why I've tried to put everything necessary just to play media (including automatically starting on the Mezzmo library) into the Mezzmo Kodi addon. My goal is to have the Mezzmo Kodi addon as the only thing you need other than Kodi to play media. I do still like the Mezzmo app interface on Android. it is cleaner and more modern looking but I can't escape the stability and rock solid performance of the Mezzmo Kodi addon and Kodi. Kodi has a bunch of other skins to change the look / feel but I keep it simple. Functionality and stability over style The beauty of Mezzmo is that we have a choice of endpoints. I actually run a mix of almost everything.

Any luck on your Rocktek issue ?

Tried that. For some reason it wouldn't even recognize that a USB stick was plugged in.

Still no luck. I think my next option is to do a factory reset and see what happens since it happens to two different Rocktek G2s.

Sorry to hear and too bad it wouldn't recognize the USB. Is there any way to file transfer a file to the internal storage and try playing back ? Sorry I am not helpful with Android.

There are, using third party tools, which I will need to side-load because Android TV doesn't allow all of the apps that Android itself does. It's dumb that way. That's my last step before trying a factory reset.

    [UPDATE]

So I finally got a chance to do a factory reset on one of my two devices. That did not resolve the sound issues on the Rocktek G2. However, my nVidia Shield Pro has always worked and still does, I did not do a factory reset on it, no need.

So this looks to be an issue specific to the G2.... Yay!

I just ordered a Mecool KM2 Plus Deluxe from Amazon to set up and see if it has the same issue. The only reason I am not buying more nVidias is because the design is 5+ years old. I am HOPING that they are going to, at some point, do a new model.

There's a lengthy thread going on in the Kodi forums about the best media player, many of which are Android based. There are some sharp people there including Android exports. You may find this useful. The Dune boxes are getting high praise.

    Thanks,

Thanks for that. I while back I looked at the Dune devices but they were always so much more expensive than everyone else, like over $240. That said, it looks like the prices have come down on their 4k models. I may have to re-investigate them.

    [FINAL UPDATE]

So the Mecool KM2 Plus seems to be working just fine.
