    Default Stream vs mapped drive?

    Hi there...

I currently use an HTPC to view digital media on my TV from my primary desktop in our home office. I have some folders/drive set up as a shared/mapped network drive so any pc in my home with network access can view/listen to the files on my primary pc.

Can you explain the benefits of streaming content using Mezzmo vs my current setup?

    Thx in advance.

Using Mezzmo does provide many benefits over using a mapped drive. They include:

    • You can organize all your media files from multiple sources in one place, such sources can include NAS network drives, other PCs, HDD recorders, other media servers, etc... This has the benefit of seeing and accessing all your media files in a uniform structure.
    • You can create different types of playlists to further refine your collection. For example, Top Rated, Most Played, Rock Songs From The 90s, Lake Tahoe Photos, Giants Games, Kids Movies, etc... In the case of active playlists, they are updated automatically for you when you add/remove/modify items in your collection, so you don’t need to maintain them. You can also use linked playlists to allow Mezzmo to list and play playlists from other software such as Windows Media Player or Winamp.
    • Whenever you add extra TVs, sound devices, or home theater equipment to your home, you don’t need to have an HTPC running WMC for each one of of them. You just need a UPnP AV or DLNA-compliant access point - which is much more cost-effective and requires little/no setup and maintenance. Many of the new audio and video equipment have UPnP or DLNA already inside them, so there is no need to purchase additional stuff.
    • Mezzmo lets you set permissions for all your media files, so you can stream some playlists to certain client devices/PCs and they won’t be accessible by others.
    • Mezzmo will work with any DLNA device that enters your home. It is not reliant on the Windows operating system or NTFS/FAT file systems like your mapped drives. You will be able to connect any UPnP AV or DLNA device to your (wireless) LAN and Mezzmo will stream media to it or Mezzmo will allow you add content from it to your collection - no matter if the device is from Microsoft, Apple, Linux, Sony, Panasonic, or what it is. There are many electronic devices shipping with UPnP AV and DLNA built-in and they will just work in your home. In the near future, there will be many mobile devices coming out with UPnP and DLNA as well.

    Regards,

    Dennis
