Default Best source format for transcoding?

    Hi,

I want to put all my movies from DVD's and Blurays on a machine running Mezzmo. What is the best format to convert them into?

Right now I'll watch them from my PS3. But later it might be an Xbox, a Samsung TV, an IPad or an Android fridge.

So Mezzmos transcoding features sounds great. But what is the best base format for Mezzmo to work with? Any format that will give better performance or better quality?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'd recommend AVCHD (MPEG-TS container, h264 video, AC3 sound) - that'll play without re-transcoding on the PS3 and the Samsung TV (provided the bitrate is below around 16 Mbits). You could also use Matroska, but that''ll only play natively on the TV and will require transcoding for the PS3 (which in most cases will only be remuxing). If you got that route, make sure your video profile level is not higher than 4.1. Not sure about the fridge though

Thanks Dennis! I'll try those out.

Guess I'll worry about the fridge later ;-)
