Default Subtitles VS lots-of-formats in LG-LE5510

    Hello!
Since it's a new year and all that, I decided to test some Media Servers to see if they were any better than the Nero Media Home that came with my TV, a LG-LE5510. I was pretty happy with Nero until I realized that there was this "new thing" called transcoding, and that would save me tons of time converting videos from other formats to AVI .

I tested a few, but the only ones that really grabbed my attention was one that had a ton of great options and worked with every format available under the Sun but crashed a lot, specially in the middle of transcoding (or just transcoding a few seconds and then stop, or some other weird stuff). The other one was, naturally, Mezzmo, which doesn't have as many options and control, but is much easier to setup and also seems to be able to read every codec and format around.

So what's the problem? The problem is that when configuring Media Devices, I only get a generic "LG TV" as an option. It works with AVI/DivX/XVid, but every other format I try to throw at only gets me an "Invalid Format" message on my TV. That blew me away and made me experiment with other settings, as I knew my TV would natively work with (at least) MP4 and MKV as those worked on Nero!

So, I tried other settings. I remember reading somewhere that "LG and Samsung are all the same inside" so I went directly to Samsung setting and tried some. Well, it was perfect! Well, almost!

I tried Samsung B, BDP, C, Captivate and HTS. In all of these (but not in Samsung A, for example) I got AVI, MKV, MP4, FLV, MPG, WMV and MOV flawlessly! I was pretty surprised and am pretty sure there is some transcoding taking part somewhere in some of the formats, but I don't care because this is like HEAVEN! Being able to watch youtube clips, and Gametrailers game intros and a ton of demo reels without the trouble of sitting around converting them! Amazing!

Then all joy turned into disappointment... I lost the ability of having subtitles (SRT/SUB) in movies :-(

So I checked again and again: I can either choose the predefinition "LG TV" and have subtitles, or I choose one of the Samsungs predefinitions and can have all the other formats.

Is that possible to make the "LG TV" work like whatever the "Samsung" predefinition is doing?! Because I don't want to constantly have to switch definitions in case I want either watch a ton of demos or watch a movie with subtitles. In short, I would like to be able to watch moveis with subtitles AND other formats as well, like WMV and MOV and FLV like I can in the Samsung settings.

Sorry for the long message, but I thought I had to explain it thoroughly!

Yes, we've got an updated device profile for the LG - please send a message to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and we'll send it out to you to try - it should let you play all those formats and have subtitles as well.
