Ok, we've tried the files here and they don't play natively on the BDP (although they should, as per the device profile). I suspect it's because of some data that the DVR adds to the file and BDP's player cannot process.

You can force transcoding of those files (and all others) by going to the Advanced tab on the Device Settings dialog (from the Media Devices) and setting "Deliver media files support by device" to "Never Deliver" (leave the rest as-is). That should make all files transcode and those files should play fine then (they do here).

Changing the setting as you suggest does make the files play properly.

However, all my DVD's ripped to MPEG now stutter on the sound and don't fast forward and rewind as smoothly as before the setting was changed.

Any suggestions how to get both sets of files up and running smoothly? I have a Q6600 Quad Core on Gb LAN.

That's because now everything is being transcoded. The only way to fix this at the moment is to convert those files from the DVR separately, before adding them to Mezzmo. Unfortunately I don't see any other way around this for the time being.

OK - I will look into a way of batch processing the files for when I copy across a group of files. Good job I've just bought a 2TB hard-drive.

As a future feature, is it possible to set transcoding options by file type. e.g. set mpg files (from my dvds) to not be transcoded but set ts files (from my DVR) to be transcoded. This could be added as exceptions in the advanced tab.

Once pre-transcoding is fully implemented, you will be able to transcode files individually (from within Mezzmo GUI) and thus you'll be able to choose which ones to transcode on a file-by-file basis.
