Default Poor MKV Playback on both Sony Bravia TV and Sony BluRay

Ever since the Christmas update to Mezzmo I have been having greatly increased problems with transcoded MKV files playing on my Sony Bravia KDL37EX503 TV AND my Sony S370 BluRay player.

The MKV files start to play without problem. But then 9 times out of 10 the sound starts to drop out, go out of sync with the video and the video appears to speed up and slow. Also on occasion just stopping. The CPU usage of the server during transcoding is a perfectly acceptable 50-60% so it isn't a load issue.

I am currently using the Sony BDP (PAL) and Sony Bravia KDL profiles.

    Is it an FFMpeg issue?

Your help with this matter would be much appreciated.

The couple of times that I've had similar issues I've traced to bandwidth problems on my wireless connection to my KDL. I'm usually able to resynce the audio by pausing and then unpausing the playback. No other problems. You may want to look into this aspect of it, especially if it happens at random parts of the same movie (always test with identical source material when troubleshooting).

I have had similar problems with my Bravia KDL TV since the last update, and with all type of files. Tried both KDL profiles with no success, and it's definitely a problem which appeared with this version ! Now mezzmo is nearly unusable for me and i'm starting to seriously regret bying it, because PS3MS was much better at transcoding and playing my files than mezzmo (but very slow browsing which pushed me towards Mezzmo...).

Hoping that the next version will solve that (and finally bring subtitles burning too), and that it will come as fast as possible.

It's possible that this has to do with broken AC3 encoding in the latest version - see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...-latest-2.1.13

I recommend sending an e-mail to support to get that patch and see if that helps. If it doesn't, we'll troubleshoot it further.

Lucky you. I have tried two trial versions of Mezzmo. 2.1.7, and 2.1.13. The 2.1.7 seemed to work fine, except somehow there was an MKV file that had no audio during playback, while another file played fine (i just tried the first few seconds).

The 2.1.13 version, resulted in my TV not finding ANY files. I have a Sony Bravia KDL40W5100 TV, haven't tried on the BDP-N460 yet, but I might try it to see if there is a difference.

I'm really considering purchasing, but not without making sure that 2.1.13 will work on the TV.

Edit: With regarding to sounds, I noticed my TV will display a Dolby logo on the top right corner with the other files, but that one specific file (4GB over 1hr long playback) didn't make that logo appear. As far as Mezzmo's file description, the audio codec was the same for all files (ATSC A/52 / AC-3). All other files were about 49~50 minutes of playback at ~2GB.

Are you using the "Sony Bravia KDL W" device profile for your TV?

"Sony Bravia KDL" profile is used, if that's what you meant. Otherwise, there is no one with "W" in it. The only other Sony is the PS3.

Edit: Sorry, just realized, you might've meant on the 2.1.13 version. I didn't change any profiles from what it detected, at that point I didn't really know about the profiles.

Yes, the 2.1.13 includes a "W" profile that may work better - are you running .7 or .13 at the moment?
