Thread: MKV with samsung C8000 Series...

Default MKV with samsung C8000 Series...

I have looked high and low for an answer for this but have not found anything concrete that has worked. I have a handful of mkv files that won't play almost all the time but will then occasionally work for seemingly no reason. MOST of my mkv files work just fine aside from a select few. My tv (which is 100mbit) is wired on my network, as is my ps3 (which is gigabit) same problem with both devices. I am including log files in the hopes that someone can figure this out as its driving me crazy.

Looking at the logs, that MKV is being transcoded, but the transcoding speed is not fast enough. If you try to play that same file again in a few minutes, it should play further. Try also using a "Samsung BDP" device profile and see if that works better (it'll transcode less, but the TV may refuse to play files more).

What sort of CPU do you have?

    A q6600. I've tried c-series and bdp 3d I don't think I've tried just bdp let me do that and try again. . .

The bdp profile does not work with that file I just get a "Not supported video codec". Also I can tell that the file is not going to play through from the moment it starts to play as the file length does not come up and I can not fast forward at all which both work fine when the file actually plays as it should.

-Edit- Shouldnt a q6600 be fast enough to transcode this? Should I try overclocking a bit? I have it at factory speeds right now but should be able to bump it up a bit.

You'd need roughly a 20% speed increase for smooth playback and I don't think, frankly, that overclocking will gain you that much (I could be wrong though). This is where pre-transcoding will help. Or, you can start playing it, then stop and let it finish in the background. After that it'll be ready to play.

Ok, can you please post FFmpeg information on that file (in Mezzmo right-click on the file and use the "Get FFmpeg Information" command) as I'd like to know what video profile level it is. Perhaps we can copy (remux) the video stream instead of fully transcoding it and that would make it much faster. Or, if you wish, I can tell you which FFmpeg command to run from the command line prompt to try remuxing manually to see if it plays.

As an update, I remuxed the file to level 4.1 and it still has the very same issue.
