I’m in the middle of my 15 day trial period and I really like the interface of Mezzmo. There are a few major problems for me though—the same problems I have with the Samsung DLNA software that ships with the TV’s.
- The Jump (FF/REW) feature doesn't work on many of my files (I use MKV, MP4, & AVI files -- in that order of preference).
- Playback from last position is not available (blue button on remote when playing back from USB drive).
- Transcoding is very slow and is happening for files that shouldn't need transcoding.
The Jump feature MUST work for my files or else this software doesn’t solve anything for me.
Playback from previous position is almost as important as the Jump feature. My kids usually cannot watch a movie all the way through and like to pick up where they left off when they come back. If they can’t press the blue button to start from the last known position, they would need to use Jump to FF back to where they left off, and if Jump isn’t working…you see where I’m going.
I understand that not all files that play from the USB drive will be accepted via DLNA and therefore need transcoding, the problem is that all of my files currently play through the supplied Samsung DLNA software but not all of my files play through Mezzmo without transcoding. The files that are being transcoded are also unwatchable while transcoding because it’s terribly slow. I have a 3GB AVI file that is being transcoded when I play it and it plays like its being buffered from the internet...play, pause..., play, pause...
Test machine is a Pentium D 2.8 GHz, 3GB RAM, Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit. TV used is a Samsung PN58B860Y2F.
I tried the A, B, & C Samsung TV profiles and B worked the best, A was the worst.
Most of my files are encoded with H264 video and AAC Dolby Pro Logic II audio.
