Default Samsung PN58C7000 not accepting .wtv video files from Mezzmo

I have been using Windows Media Center (on Windows 7) to record cable TV shows. The shows are stored in the .wtv file format. I can see the Mezzmo DLNA source on the TV and can find the video files. However, when I try to play them the TV says they are in an unsupported format. I can convert the files within Windows Media Center to DVR-MS format. Mezzmo also presents these to the TV and the TV will play them. It seems like Mezzmo is passing the .wtv format on to the TV with no transcoding, while it does transcode the DVR-MS formated files. I believe Mezzmo says it supports the .wtv file format. How do I get Mezzmo to transcode the .wtv files to something the TV can accept without having to convert the .wtv files within Windows Media Center?

I have a Samsung PN58C7000 plasma TV and am using the Samsung C device profile.

Mezzmo should be transcoding both the WTV and DVR-MS formats.

Can you please confirm that transcoding is turned on?

Also, please turn on logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...nostic-logging), then try playing one of the WTV files on your TV and once it comes up with an error, stop the server and send the logs to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and we'll take a look at what's going on.

Default I sent the log files

Hi, thanks for the quick response last night!

I just went through the 2.4.0 update hoping it would help, but still have the same problem. When I try to play a .wtv file I get a popup window with an error message on the TV saying "Not supported codec". After a few seconds, the window goes away and I'm back to the screen showing the video files on the Mezzmo server.

However, now there is someting a bit different since the update to 2.4.0. Before, after I got the error message, I would still see the entry for the .wtv video file with a small screenshot icon. And I could choose that file, it would attempt to load, and I'd get the same error again.

Now, however, after trying to play a .wtv file once, the entry is still there for the video file name, but the screenshot icon was replaced with a red slashed circle icon. If I try to play it, I get a popup error window saying "No files to playback".

The video files are still in the C:\users\public\RecordedTV directory, which is where Windows Media Center placed them. And I have added that directory to the Mezzmo library. Entries for the video files also still show up in the Mezzmo Library under Video\All Video Files.

I don't believe the logs I sent contain this latest behavior. Just the original issue concerning the unsupported codec error.

I can send another log with this latest issue, or wait until you tackle the first one.

    Thanks!

    Question Is this problem solved

    Hi,
I'm new to Mezzmo, but it looks great at first impression.
I have downloaded a trial version to play with it, because I'm about to buy a Samsung TV with DLNA.
I would appreciate if you could confirm that the streaming of a wtv-file from a Windows Home 2003 server to a Samsung TV is working.
If it is working, I will buy the Samsung TV and Mezzmo. Thanks.

    Kind Regards,
    Klaus

    Hi Klaus,

Generally WTV are transcoded fine, but you'd need to try your specific files to know for sure.

If things aren't working as they should be, we're always happy to try and help.

Sort of off topic, but I thought I'd share that I'm trying to use MCEBuddy to convert WTV/DVR-MS to a more usable and much smaller format - eg MP4 or AVI etc.

If you are interested in reducing the file size from your TV recorder you might like to take a look at it.

It works in the background and converts to mkv/mp4/avi format

That sounds like a workable solution, thanks for sharing that.

    Hi Dennis and Dillster,

Thank you both very much for replying.
I bourght the Samsung 32" LED UE32D5005P yesterday because it sudenly came on sale, and I was affraid it was going to be sold out.

I tried the DLNA streaming yesterday and even though they said in the store that the television support 95% of all file formats, it doesn't work!
It find the Mezzno DLNA server just fine, but when I start playback of a wtv-file, it says "Not supported file format" (translated from Danish).
I tried to play some other formats like mp4 video from my pocket camera. This didn't work either. I then tried an avi-file and a mpg-file with the same error!!! There is the 95% coming from????
For me mp4 and avi is the most used file formats for video? Maybe it's the bitrate or something else?
    I succesfully played a vob-file from a ripped DVD.

Do you think something else is wrong (TV setup.....)?

However I will try the MCEBuddy and get back to you in a few days.

    Kind regards,
    Klaus

    Hi Klaus,

Claiming that something supports 95% of all possible file formats is very brave, to say the least

Please make sure that you have the "Samsung D" device profile selected (check the Media Devices dialog).

Afert that, please turn on logging (see this thread: http://forum.conceiva.com/showthread...nostic-logging) then try playing one of the failing files and once you get an error from the TV, stop the server and send the logs to support (at) conceiva (dot) com and we'll take a look.
