Thread: Found a file Samsung D6000 TV won't play, transcoding doesn't kick in.

    Default Found a file Samsung D6000 TV won't play, transcoding doesn't kick in.

    Tried to play a Walking Dead Webisode tonight on my Samsund U32D6000 TV, with the Samsung D profile, with transcoding enabled, but the TV reported "Unsupported Codec" when it attempted to play the file. Here are the ffmpeg details:

    ffmpeg version N-33093-gb4483a5, Copyright (c) 2000-2011 the FFmpeg developers
    built on Sep 29 2011 14:54:32 with gcc 4.4.2
    Input #0, matroska,webm, from '\\HOMESERVER\Videos\Television\The Walking Dead\Extras\Webisodes\Torn Apart 1x01 - A New Day.mkv':
    Duration: 00:02:44.76, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 5653 kb/s
    Stream #0:0: Video: h264 (High), yuv420p, 1920x1080, SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9, 30.30 fps, 29.97 tbr, 1k tbn, 59.94 tbc (default)
    Stream #0:1: Audio: aac, 44100 Hz, stereo, s16 (default)
    At least one output file must be specified

    ---> DB Level Info: 40, 100
    ---> Frame rate: 30.30
    ---> Aspect ratio: 16:9

    Is that a failure of the profile (tried to send the file untranscoded to the TV) or of ffmpeg (failed to transcode it)? Let me know if you need a sample of the file itself...

    Basically as far as the device profile is concerned, that file should play natively, so I suspect there's something in the encoding of that file which makes it incompatible with the built-in played on the TV. If you have Samsung's AllShare software, can you try this file and see if that works? If it doesn't play either, then that confirms that the firmware cannot handle it.

    Once the pre-transcoding version of Mezzmo comes out, you could force transcode such files to make them compatible.

    This tells us that there is something within your video file that Samsung's firmware does not like. It could be the audio codec, the video codec, the bitrate, the level, etc. For now, your only choice is to re-encode the file to a more compatible format that Samsun'g firmware can play.

    The upcoming release of Mezzmo will have a "pre-transcoding" feature that will allow you to transcode your files (even compatible files) and force the transcoded file to be streamed - rather than the original. This will let you get around this Samsung firmware issue. We are in final testing now & the new version should be released in the next 1-2 days. It is a free upgrade for all registered users.

    Just an update - Mezzmo v2.5 has been released and it has the 'pre-transcoding' features that we mentioned as solution in this thread.
