Default Playlists/Auto Playlists with Rights/Permissions needed

    Hi @All,

I bought the tool and Im very happy with. Its better than Twonky because it runs without problems. Nevertheless I have the following important suggestion for a needed Feature in that Tool.
I have kids at home and on my server are also Videos stored where they should not get in touch with. That means there is an important issue missing in my eyes:
User Rights/Permissions for Playlists or maybe also on Document base.

Actually in Windows is easy.. Maybe give the opportunity to set rights based on UserGroups and on Devices....

    Thanks
    Torsten from Germany

    Hi Torsten,

You can set device permissions for playlists. In Mezzmo, right-click on a playlist and click the 'Playlist Sharing Permissions' menu item. Use this dialog to allow/disallow a playlist being seen on particular device(s) in your home.

    Hi,

yes.. to setup per Device is also an option but think: Maybe they login on to another computer (kids are intelligent), and use this device to watch... then i have to block all devices... ERGO: no watching any more...

    anyway:
Twonky Media have the option to set a Pin code to Playlists or to an element... I think that makes sence and is easy to implement.

Understand your suggestion. We'll are also considering using PINs & have this earmarked for future development.

I must agree this area has many problems that needs to be re-engineered to work correctly in many cases.

I liked the nice default playlists you made during setup, I cannot name them now because i had to delete them. Like the OP
I have Kids and some files i don't want them to have access to. So i had to delete all the pre made playlists because i could not control them correctly.
A good example of this would be the Top 50 played files playlist. I had added some folders to mezzmo and set them to only Play/Display on My TV not the other TV's.
This worked good and only listed those Folders on My TV and not on the other TV's. But if i played any of those files in that folder on my TV those files would show up in the Top 50 files default playlist on all the TV's. You could also still play the file on the other TV from this list.

Since the Playlists will only show up in the Root and and can only focus on the whole library you can not control them for two user like Adults/Kids. It is all or nothing.
It would be nice if the playlist could be made inside the folder and only focus on the files in that folder and not on the whole library.

I do hope to see improvements in this area in the future or i see myself changing to some other server that handles this better.

But that doesn't solve his concern of one of his children coming to the device that *IS* allowed to see/play the movies and play them. That is his concern and why PIN codes make sense in his case.

Thanks for the feedback. It's appreciated. We certainly will be extending the parental control features in Mezzmo.
