Thread: Out of sync audio (MP4 files) - but only when streaming?

Default Out of sync audio (MP4 files) - but only when streaming?

    Hello!

I was wondering if someone could please tell me how to fix my problem.

I have an MP4 file (using standard settings in Handbrake) I created from a standard-DVD and it's out of sync when streaming to my Xbox360. It's a 1980's TV series that was put on DVD and I bought it on Amazon a few years ago. I thought maybe it was because of the original source material of the video, but I'm noticing that several more recent DVD releases are also out of sync.

Here is my issue though. When I play the MP4 on a PC, it's perfectly IN SYNC. Only when I stream to Mezzmo is it out of sync. It goes from slightly out of sync to insanely out of sync, then back to perfect....etc.

I've used the same settings for months with handbrake and it's never been an issue.

    Is it my internet?

I have the 3700 router, and I've tried hard-wired and wireless - both go out of sync.

    Thank you for any help!

Please allow me to clarify one important point. The MP4 files are NOT out of sync on the PC where the file resides (i.e. local).
It's only when streaming to the new Xbox360 that the audio 'becomes' out of sync. I am certain it's not transcoding or anything like that, so I have no idea.
Why just one particular series of standard DVDs become out of sync when streamed, yet the actual video file itself when played locally on the PC, shows no signs of out of sync audio.

    Please help! Thank you!

    Hello Ben,

Can you please right-click on one of those files in Mezzmo and post the output of the "Get FFmpeg Information" command, so that I could check whether they'll be transcoded using the XBox360 device profile or not?

If they are being transcoded, we can try some settings in the device profile to see if that helps. If they are being streamed natively, then it's possible that there's something in the encoding of the file thats makes the player on the XBox360 not play it correctly (VLC can handle a lot more than a typical hardware device's player can).

    Does this help?

I created a Handbrake setting that was based off the normal preset (nothing extreme).

I wonder, is it a bandwidth problem? or file/transcoding related?

    Hope you can help, thanks!

    Thanks for the file information.

Yes, it should be passed through natively using the XBox profile, so I suspect it has something to do with the file's encoding. Would it be possible for you to upload this file to a site like www.megaupload.com so that I could test it here?

I had the exact same problem. I manually updated FFMPEG to the latest version, and this corrected the issue for me.

The file is passed through natively, so it's not transcoded and thus changing FFmpeg shouldn't matter in this case. Did you change it to one provided by us or from a third-party? We have an updated version available, if you need one (contact support).

The new version of Mezzmo will have a new version of ffmpeg, so please try it when it is released. It should be ready in the next 1-2 days. It is a free upgrade for all registered users.
